Was spanking common when you were growing up or in your area?

My last spanking was when I was 13 or 14. Spanking was common in the area I grew up in and I know it's not extinct in my area to this day. I've had spankings from my mom aunt and friends mom they all had different styles. When I was younger it was usually a few smacks with a hand. The spankings in my teens were always bare bottom over the lap or bent over a bed or couch. At this age the spankings were harder and longer and usually was with a paddle belt or hairbrush. This also depended on who I was being spanked by and yes it was embarrassing.

Common? I don't know. As far as I know the kids I grew up with were all pretty well behaved. Spanking was and is an acceptable form of punishment where I lived/live.

Only parents spanked their children. Aunts/uncles/other adults did not.

My SIL and her husband have chosen not to physically discipline their children and I'm not saying that had anything to do with it but... those children are heathens lol They are SO ill-behaved.

I often hear "gentle parenting" juxtaposed to spanking and... ain't none of either of those things happening in that house 😂

Their kids were at my in-law's for a week once and they acted a fool and my in-law's spanked them and... right wrong or other... those kids behave themselves at Grandma and Grandpa's now.

It was BIG drama though. The parents were very angry that their children had been spanked. But... as an outsider looking in... those kids are nightmares except when they're at Grandma and Grandpa's so... draw from that what you will.

I received 100% of all spankings in my life in the last 2 years. All of them consensual. In my opinion physical punishment is something thats only for the bedroom. Parents who have to use that have otherwise missing parental abilities. At least today. It was different in the past maybe but parenting changed and should change further in my opinion.

Thanks for your opinion. I also enjoy spanking in the bedroom. I didn't like the spankings when I was younger but they definitely made me want to listen and be good. I would say they worked for me I turned out very successful.

My parents really did not spank us much although one day we were on a long car trip and my brother and me were fighting in the back seat. My father threatened to pull the car over and give us a beating. We just thought he was bluffing as always but he actually did it. We were probably quiet afterwards for at least a half hour.

It was 50/50 about half did but not in my family or anyone I knew of was ever spanked. I do not believe that spanking is good. There are other ways to teach!

personally, I believe spanking would work for an adult and then only if he/she him/herself sees the value in it and consents. Otherwise you're merely abusing people even if you call it discipline and have the best intentions. The road to hell after all, is many times paved with the best of intentions, but it still leads to hell.

Hell yes, I grew up in Florida. I saw my friend's daddy beat his ass with a fan belt. Another friend's daddy beat his ass with a bull whip. In school you got a paddling, even in high school. My Momma would hit you with her fist.
