Why do people say money can’t buy happiness?

I have watched Game shows and when the people found out they won the game and prize money they looked very happy

They might just be trying to specify that happiness doesn't require money. But if they really mean that money can't buy happiness, then they aren't really thinking about it deeply & haven't done enough research on it.

I mean it's no coincidence that wealthy people are generally less stressed & physically healthier. And that's because when people's wealth increases, they tend to care more about themselves and the world around them.

We generally feel happiness when we feel we are achieving our goals. Especially so when we achieve a hard-won goal. And money can be a gateway to goals you otherwise couldn't have met. Goals that can severely improve one's emotional state!

So money (in a way) can buy happiness. But ofc, the amount will vary depending on the persons personality type, beliefs & values, habits & behaviors, etc.

And I definitely think the saying applies more to people that already have enough wealth to create whatever life that would make them happy.

Because instead of worrying about paying bills, having a safe place to live or food on your plate. You instead have time to worry about not accomplishing enough, being fulfilled or some other general malaise.

Personally, I'd rather deal with the ennui of having tons of money. Sitting on a 100ft yacht and worrying about the futility of existence. Than how rent is going to be paid or some other poor person problem. Money may not buy happiness. At least your worries go from merely existing to existential.

The co-founder of Apple had all the money he could dream of, he could buy everything he ever wanted to... except health.

Did he look happy knowing he was going to die from an incurable cancer? He would have spent all his money finding a cure for his happiness but he did not because his cancer was stronger than all the money in the world. Result, he won the jackpot, he was rich but he was unhappy because his money could not buy him the only thing he needed and that was health.

No, money cannot buy you happiness. Never!

It really doesn’t that’s why you see millionaires killing themselves or using drugs to harm their bodies. Also I realized myself on a recent vacation that money doesn’t buy happiness because I was at a nice hotel with my family with a beach and a pool and it had everything but I wasn’t happy because I missed my loved one.

lol. At about $70,000 money does buy happiness. You're not happy if you're struggling for necessities. However, above that it doesn't always provide a happier life because of what you have to do to gain that money.

Game shows are a show and fake. The contestants are encouraged to act excited and happy. Many are not happy at the money but thrilled at the fame in the moment. Too many people win money like the lottery and it destroys their life.

People mean that money can't buy long term happiness. Winning lots of money is a sugar rush, but it's not going to make you make in the long term.

Because you can't deal with depression etc, no matter how much money you have, if there is a void inside of your soul, there is a void inside of your soul. No money can buy your emotions
