Sometimes it is truth. Problem is, sometimes it is just an angry version of some aspect of truth, not the whole truth, or the final conclusion about something.

I think it's very, very, dangerous to hold someone to something they said when at the height of anger. The person shouldn't say things they don't absolutely mean, and if they do mean it they should say it at a different time, in a more constructive way. But holding someone accountable for those particular words, and never letting the hurt go, can also be a huge mistake, and erode the relationship.

Everyone is going to be hurt being in a relationship. People hurt each other. Being hurt does not signify it is time to leave.
But also no one has to put up with a continual barrage of admissions that only come out when angry.
The difficulty is knowing which is which; what is tolerable and what makes one intolerant.

It depends on the person, I guess. Some people really are speaking the truth when they are angry and some people are just angry and don't really mean what they say. They're just so heated that they just say whatever.

I'd say it's a bit of both.
Someone can say something that they didn't mean to - out of rage & emotion..

Just as well, though, if it's a sensitive subject that you confided to them in confidence/private and they used that as fuel for their fires in attacking you, I'd say that's more of a red flag.
I also believe that as we age, the validity of using anger & emotions as an excuse to behave poorly kind of starts to diminish. A 13 year old screaming about how he hates his mom is vastly different than a 40 year old tearing at your personally insecurities simply because he's upset.

When someone hurts you it's easy to get caught up in the heat of the moment and attack the other persons vulnerabilities. But you always feel shitty afterwards. Some lines really should never be crossed cause if you do it could destroy the other persons self-esteem and make them feel worthless.

No. I think the truth gets twisted into ugly when someone is angry and they say things they know are not true to only regret later.
