When your lost as sea and suffering from dehydration go against your instinct to drink salt water in the believe its better than no water at all. Because you will probably live longer and increase you chances of survival by not drinking the water and slowing going catatonic, verse drinking salt water and having all your organs shut down and losing control of your mind.

Oh, and always wait until the very last moment to jump from a sinking ship... may sailor lost at sea the abandoned an now sinking ship.

Never run from a prey animal... stand your ground if turn your back and run they are 10 times more likely to attack you.

If a prong breaks off in a light socket and it just barely hanging there, don't think you can pull it out so fast you won't be about to get electrocuted.

Don't stand under a tree in a lightening storm... if a the tree is struck you more likely to be electrocuted or killed by falling branches than you other wise would of been by getting stuck by lightening.

Working out.

It's counterintuitive to hurt ourselves. But yet when you workout that's exactly what you do tear your muscles apart and cause microfractures throughout your entire body. Which then in turn force the body to grow bigger and stronger.

So it works out in the end.

It's also counterintuitive that when you slide on ice in a car your instincts tell you to turn the opposite direction. But in reality you need to fight that instincts and turn and turn in the same direction of the spin/skid. In order to gain control over it again.
