Should the women get punished if their husbands commit suicide due to marital problems?

A neighbor of mine committed suicide yesterday. The guy was really good, softspoken but his wife was rude. Always wanted more and more from him and was never satisfied, even though both had stable jobs kids.
Suicide rates are highest among married men globally and most of the time women get a free pass, as mental abuse cannot be proved if the person is already dead.
Plus it's taboo in our society for men to speak up against emotional abuse from women which is as common as men physically abusing women. But the latter gets the spotlight.

My first wife emotionally abused me, but told everyone I emotionally abused her. Honestly I played online games and ignored her cause I couldn't deal with her. Somehow that translated to emotional abuse cause I ignored her crap.

I find emotional abuse is a hard thing to clarify though, because what hurts one person has no effect on someone else. I focus on physical violence/abuse. That is easy to figure out, and prove as emotional is subjective to the person.

Things my first wife said was abusive my second wife had no problem with.

I get when someone is the victim of a crime, the emotional damage that causes is different than emotional damage from being married.

I'm also a huge supporter of child support laws being changed, I've known too many guys who committed suicide over a system they felt they could not ever get out of.

I left my first wife when I was done taking her crap, this guy should of too. Suicide means he stayed too long and couldn't take it anymore. At least he wasn't the victim of a crime and had no say in his emotional damage. He has all the say in the world, he could of left at any point.

This is an excellent example of why men fail to look after their or their friends (and in this case neighbours) mental health.

At what point should this guy have done the sensible thing, booked in with a counsellor, chatted to his friends or even his obviously caring neighbour.

I've lost a number of friends to suicide, some linked to marriage, some to employment and some just to being fed up with the stress of life.

The most common theme, is that last bit … That somehow it’s Taboo to Get help for emotional / mental health issues, of which emotional abuse is just one.

What should happen in these occasions?

A guy should be able to open up to anyone he is close to without judgement or being looked at like he’s some weak woman.

at 18 a friend who had been out with a group of mates, goes back to his flat and redecorates his flat by taking most of his head off with a shotgun.

the reason, he was depressed, he had told one of his friends (and mine) that he was depressed, usual words of encouragement given snd to ‘man up’. even when we found out about it we did not think much of him having depression (I was 18).

Roll on a year, a Sergeant I knew whose marriage was breaking up, took a hose to his car and gassed himself, reason depression from marriage breakup. We all knew he was down as fuck, no one including me did anything.

The question is, as his neighbour you obviously knew all this as it happens yesterday, why was it never discussed, take him out for a beer n game of pool type of thing.

Yes you get utterly narcissistic and emotionally abusive women, however guys have the ability to walk out, walk away, seek help, counselling, guys have friends they can talk about depression with … oh yes not that last bit.

The sooner guys start acting like men and accepting they need help with depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc, the better. Until then we continue to lose friends, parents, neighbours.

If this was in response to my question on a criminal matter, it is not the same thing. Unless she forced him to marry her, making him a victim of a crime and he was unable to leave the relationship. So yes she should be punished if she was holding him hostage in a kidnapped situation, using him to make kids and stuff.

Having unpleasant things happen if you choose to leave and get divorced is different than not having a choice at all in a criminal attack that you cannot stop.

I'm sorry he ended life, I have great sympathy for those who feel they have only that choice left in life.

Why wouldn't he just leave her? Personally I'd leave someone if he was emotionally abusing me, or physically abusing me.

A lot of women stay in abusive relations for years. Divorce is hard for men as they lose almost everything, custody of kids, house. Some men leave, some commit suicide and seeing the stat it's not distinct.

Both men and women could leave and choose not to for various reasons, even so they have the choice to leave, they choose not to.

Just cause leaving sucks with everything that will happen doesn't mean they can't leave.

This happened last year to a woman I met. He killed himself in front of the super bowl party they were hosting. She was somewhat abrasive towards me. I never met her before. She called me weird. She admitted. She was abrasive and frank. We didn't like her much. Very bossy and yuppie in a small town bar. We're glad she's gone. I wonder why he did it?

His wife made his personal life miserable, and some people get severely depressed and without help can commit suicide. The influence to commit suicide and mental abuse is still a crime. I am curious if gender roles are turned, will you say the same about the girl?

You yourself make the decision to suicide. The guy decided to give up instead of fighting. Same with any suicides

The first step though is if someone is making you miserable to remove yourself from that situation. Not everyone who gets depressed has the choice to remove themselves, if something else caused the depression and issues. His wife being the cause, he should of got out before it got too bad.

If the depression was caused by something beyond his control and he had no way to get out of it, that is a bit of a different situation.
