I used to. But now I know that everything happens for a reason. Even if we don't figure out what the reason is right then and there, it'll come to us eventually.

abso- fucking lutely. coincidences exist all over the place. the problem is that we still draw conclusions from them lots of the time. specially in statistics that are spoken about in the public realm. many things like for example income inequalities are coincidences. yet we treat them in the public discourse as if they were causative in relationship. so for example in the public discussion it is often said women earn less money than men. because statistics show women earn less money on average than men.
but lower income just coincides with gender. there's no causal relationship between gender and income. in fact not even a correlative relationship. fact is that women make different career related choices on average. so there's a big number of different variables that all predict income and in social science for example we can already pretty much explain 99.4% of the varience in income with highly significant correlations. there's only a 0.6% of "not yet" explained variance left and even there, we don't have reasons to assume that those 0.6% are some sort of "unfair and oppressive patriarchical effects"...

yet in the public discussions it never goes as deep. they just look at income differences and figure that 100% of it is caused by a patriarchic system.

well why would i call you stupid? xD i mean the human brain is a problem solving machine. it has evolved to see connections and draw conclusions, so that we can avoid things that kill us and find food, shelter and water.

we have to depend on this mechanism cause obviously we do not know everything and our senses never tell us the "whole" story about the world around us, so we have to connect some dots. we are just not very successfull at figuring out when we connected wrong dots, cause sometimes connecting wrong dots still works for us.

and then also we have the problem living in the "now" with a brian that can remember the past and make guesses about the future. so combine that with this dot connecting machine we have running, our brain likes to make sense of everything and put reasons for things that happened. we are actually not very good at "detecting" coincidences. and also often we simply don't like the idea that what happened may have just been a coincidence, cause it makes us feel less special xD

well believing there are no coincidences just says that you don't have knowledge of certain things. it doesn't mean you're stupid :D stupidity and lack of knowledge are different things.

I believe that coincidence word or concept has got made up for ease of us humans cuz our brains cannot go to that depth of nature... so to have thing to say or make a sensible concept we have coincidence... but the universe do not go randomly... for example every second every energy acts n reacts n things happen so u accidentally meet that person "coincidently" in the store... God knows n he runs whole universe accordingly with calculations n record i believe... and he got complete command on what to do where n how... and also one more thing is we that we learn energy can never be created nor be destroyed but it can be converted from one form to a different form... so in that sense there is same amount of energy now n then which maybe be slow here do do things fast somewhere else... or maybe positive/good here but negative/bad somewhere else... not super right example for that but just to say that a wooden table is playing its role in the room but if u cut into pieces, then still they can be placed at multiple areas for different usage... or if burnt then the wood converts its form n by fire the carbon is exerted which is again a form of energy n does it job in the air or ozone layer in a negative way for humans bht maybe not for other creatures... God does everything in a way which we do not understand or we cannot see so for us such things become coincidence.

I used to think that everything happens for a reason but sometimes things happen and I think damn was that really necessary?
Was it necessary for me to grow around such abusive toxic narcissistic family? Was it necessary for me to fall in love and be engaged to a man who ended up cheating on me?

No it wasn’t necessary. It’s not my fault and I didn’t deserve it. Sometimes things just happen cause that’s life and we have to bury it deep underground and forget it every happened in order to live with some kind of sanity.

Nah. Burying it doesn't help. Because it'll just come to the surface at the worst times or we'll continue to feed it and it'll continue to grow. The goal is to actually heal from it.

Yes but healing doesn't mean you forget it ever happened. It just means you accept that it happened. But after accepting it's very important to bury it because it will keep popping into your mind and that, for me, is how my anxiety disorder manifested itself.

I used to believe in coincidences as well, seeing the phenomenon purely from the perspective of a statistician, but not anymore. I understand that our reality is horribly complicated and that, over time, certain events will have features that any observer will tie to other events, and that if we truly do live in a finite universe then there can only be so many possible combinations of factors that come into play within any given situation, but...

I believe in the illusion of coincidence. And that it only occurs because of our lack of intelligence to understand how everything is connected.

It's only a coincidence to the viewer. Atoms themselves have no such thing they just interact with each and that's that. So as a social concept to humans it exists since we are viewers, it's the same way if one is to believe there is a connection to why everything happens as a great design aspect again just what exists to the viewer.

Therefore either way both is just what the viewer wants to see.
In it's objective truth it's a simple ripple effect of other events happing beforehand that leads to the outcome we see, whether one wants to take that further and just say's that's luck or a design that's a viewers opinion.

And as we know from Hawkings the only thing that happened to apparently factually no cause is Blackholes than just what we subjectively view to of happened for no cause.

Dunno why there has been so many questions recently been based upon the idea of subjective views and objective truths but there has been a lot lol.

Yeah. I think there are coincidences. I mean there’s even a site called spurious correlations that has a bunch of examples of correlations. Things can just coincidental by chance. For instance, given enough time, you would almost certain flip a coin heads 100 times in a row. Nothing caused that. Every coin flip is independent of the previous coin flip. It’s just that the probability of not getting a heads 100 times in a row is a number less than 1 and raising a number less than 1 to a power n and letting n grow to infinity, the chances of not encountering 100 heads in a row becomes more unlikely.

What bearing does this have to Your situation?

I for sure do, a person knows in there soul and heart when they are in love, only the spouse can stay understanding his/her love for themself and there spouse. If only a person's significant other could truly feel the others heart to prove the love they have for their spouse, being and meaning a lot about there loved ones and not themselves.

Do u even know what coincidence means? It's not some magical thing some make-believe man called "god" intended... It's jus when two unlikely things happen at the same time, nothing more, nothing less... So if I'm thinking someone's a snowflake... And then a friend messages me about how someone unrelated is being a snowflake, that's just a coincidence, fact
