+1 yI voted both as the question is not very specific to which conformity is being addressed. There are many types and forms of conformity to many different degrees of our lives, every single day and minute of our existence.
You and I going through school, jobs, relationships, society, family, friends, lovers, and everything else, based on how we all we're brought up to be as expected. Every generation goes through it. We vote and side on politics, government, war, religion, lack there of, sexual orientation, race, etc., all based on what we believe to be right and true. But we're not the only ones who do so and we come to our conclusions similar to others. They group together out of common grounds & familiarity, you and I join as well, thus we conform. They conform.
If you're left or right or centre leaning, you're conforming and adhering to other people's labelling of someone. One then proudly admits the side they prefer and defend that side and themselves and they all band together. Liberal, Conservative, Republican, Democrat, whatever. They're all conformity.
You choose a brand or sports team, you're knee deep in conformity. You identify as introvert or extrovert, it's still the same game. It all adds up and we all conform to relate to others and not feel alone. We're all raised to conform to other's expectations in order to feel a part and not isolated. It's natural.
We are all susceptible to conformity in many ways it takes shape. Even if you go off the grid and become a hermit, you wouldn't be the first to do so, and you wouldn't be the last. You're just another number among the many.
The point is just to accept the reality we created for ourselves as a collective species. You oppose one form of conformity for another in everything you do. We all do.
Oh, we're you talking about who does the dishes? Oh well, that's a whole other topic... It all started back in 1986, I remember it well...11 Reply

+1 yWomen, no question. Social noncomformity is risky behavior (even if only slightly so in most cases), and women and risky behavior go together like peanut butter and jellyfish. Men evolved to be risk takers; women to be risk-averse, and you can see this even in pre-verbal babies. But if you want an easier example, just look at how society treats those who flout its rules openly: men get praised as bold visionaries, or at least lambasted as dangerous rebels; women get ostracized as greedy and selfish, or at best pitied as misguided and mislead.
Obviously it varies by circumstance, but with men, it's pretty much EXPECTED that you'll buck the system's demands, at least a little. Women aren't given that kind of leeway.20 Reply

@beccakendell @jamie05rhs If most people are socially apart of the masses then most people are conforming. I don't care that it looks different within males vs females. Conditioning is always reliable. It never lies. If someone doesn't conform they will be an outcast or a successful outcast. And I don't mean a fucking doctor. That is a job. They will probably have zero friends if they aren't rich. If you're rich you might be able to find some like minded people if you're lucky but super close friends you probably won't have because most dont think they way they think. Dame Dash is a great example. Kanye West is a great example.
I mean all you have to do is look at stats. Most people work for money despite it being the worse way to earn money... Only like 5% of the people end up financially independent. This isn't just about money but it is care most people are not living the way they really want to in their heart of hearts.
But who is more prone? I think is equal. It just shows up in different ways. Men aren't gonna go get plastic surgery to display then conformity...21 Reply- +1 y
Thanks for the tag. I gave you a like for mentioning me.
Who is Dame Dash?
+1 yI don't think one gender is more prone to it than the other but that we conform to different standards & therefor not comparable - since we've different expectations from society based on our gender.
Yes, we humans have evolved greatly but we've always survived in packs & we still fear to stand out and be an outcast. No one wants to be marginalized or stigmatized - which is sadly is something that happens when people stick out to much from the norm at what is acceptable.
We do not like to be against the pack, standing against the mass takes enormous strength - even when right. - Asch conformity experiments.
I studied subject like this - though not looked into this particular one & my English is a bit lacking when it comes to my degree.00 Reply

Humans conform for survival because we are animals that evolved to survive in groups. My understanding is that conforming was meant to reinforce group customs, innovations, etc to create sone structure and reinforce the strength of the group. The conformity also allowed for a space where a large brained mammal could explore new ideas because a structure was in place that could be built upon. That’s why the dress and customs, the uniqueness of language and regional ingenuity exists. People conform for survival but want to stand out in certain ways. Maybe that means colorful clothing or trying to show athletic or oratory prowess. So it creates a society that allows survival and if they are good at surviving, humans tend to show more personality. We conform but also reinforce adaptive ability…so through conformity in groups, personalities can create change and the group can adopt it, reinforcing adaptation.
I feel like I’m just high ranting but take it how you will.10 Reply530 opinions shared on Other topic. Women much more often than men have group-think and herd mentality. Men are less afraid of being themselves, having their own ideas, doing their own thing, etc. while women tend to care more about what other people think. Women are also followers more, which is sort of normal because by nature women are more submissive and are inclined to stand by a man and let him lead. But it becomes bad when large numbers of women will follow cult leaders, celebrities, etc.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yThis can go on both ways. On one end I see all these “proud” feminist on here ranting on how they don’t need to wear makeup, shave, act feminine, chaste, etc.
But being liberal became much more mainstream during the Trump administration. I’ve seen countless women say they hate Trump
and conservatives but they failed provide a concrete/rational example of how he directly harmed their lives. In fact I went on a (brief) date with one of those types who said it was painful for her to admit that Trumps tax cuts helped had business. But she was very squeamish about admitting that. Instead she conformed about going on rants on how much she hated him.
If you are a woman in that USA (especially a minority woman) you are expected to conform
to being a Democrat. But not all women, minorities and even gay people are Democrats. Now why is that?10 Reply
+1 yWomen for sure. We kinda brain washed to be a agreeable if not were a over opinionated bitch and if we dare to look different from standard beauty standards we are seen as weird. People always have to pick out flaws in women usually do this to each other but I've had people bully me for minor things such as being pale skinned. In England if you don't have a tan your kinda seen as a plain Jane and in my experience men are less likely to approach and have said I look Ill because of my pale skin
11 Reply- +1 y
Same goes in other cultures. I've seen but in Asia women bleach there skin to be pale which is the complete opposite to English women but we all do this stuff to ourselves for the same reason
Anonymous(18-24)+1 ywomen get plastic surgery and spend thousands on BAGS to look better than other girls and feel included and like they're hot. men can be fat as hell, eating chips, playing video games, living in their basement when there are men like Jason Mamoa and Leonardo dicaprio that exists

We’re more or less the same

You say that like men don't spend thousand in cars, trucks, shoes and hair implants? It goes both ways honey

I’m not saying they don’t I’m saying More or less each gender has their own insecurities
+1 yIt's rarely displayed that men conforming to the consesus, most times men are the one rebutting or opposing a trend. You've met a lot of women in life haven't you, usually they come in packs with girl groups gossiping. I can't say that men don't, because most certainly they are humans too and they have gangs and such. In general, it's usually girls are the ones you'll find in public places that's grouped, y'know.

Despite having 100+ years to vote for whoever they wanted to women (almost) never thought it was important to become leaders or to vote for female leaders. It's a reflection of the fact that women are okay with being followers of men.
In a relationship, a woman will follow the guy unless he's weak. Of course weak guys disagree cause it doesn't fit into their self-image.00 Reply
+1 yObviously, the only correct answer here is women. Just go outside and look at them. It's like a cult of crop tops, yoga pants, plastic surgeries and so on. They all dress the same, act the same, follow the same trends, do the same diets, do the same poses in photographs... Women have a hive mind. Whatever their friends are doing or whatever their favourite celebrities are doing, they have to do the same thing.
00 Replyhumans in general are quite likely in my opinion. however i think women are slightly more likely to do this, but it really depends.
30 ReplyBy far women. And to experience this you have to look outside the western liberal world where most of the people live. The world is still dominated by traditional cultures (conservationism) where women have to confirm by more rules related to sense of chastity, purity, obedience, etc.
00 ReplyWomen conform. Even women when they are being orginal nonconformist conform to the other women who are orginal nonconformists
