I can answer this question quite definitively BBB!

To pass the Knowledge (becoming a London Taxi Driver) We have to learn 20,000 streets, in excess of 200,000 points strewn anywhere across those streets, and then be able to show we can drive from any one of them to any other in the shortest/quickest route possible.
Before we are given our badge, we are tested regularly for (anything up to 15 years is the longest anyone has been on the Knowledge) any Museum, Public Building, Hotel, Club, Hall, Livery Club, Statue, office, Station, Stadium, Square, Municipal buildings. pubs etc.
We pride ourselves on NEVER using a sat Nav/ global positioning device because a) they can't work out the one way systems in London quickly enough.. if at all, and b) because we work so damn hard to pass, we don't want to lose what we've learned.

Actually, inside the brain there is something called the hippocampus, and the training we go though enlarges that by anything up to 15%.

I maybe have lazy days when I want them, but I would NEVER replace what I learned with technology!

Oh yes, without question. It's also striped people of some basic skills, especially in the kitchen. And then there is the wonderful invention of the internet, probably the biggest culprit for making people lazy these days. Why learn things when you can get look them up on google! 🙄
This is a particular problem with kids, dragging them away from their electronic devices to they can go and play in the real world.
People don't even need to leave theor houses now everything can be ordered to come directly to them.
Because of technology convenience large amount of people actually miss out on life itself, spending huge amounts of time in a virtual world and not a real world.
Having grown up without the internet, and it now being around I've seen first-hand how it has changed the world, and not for the better. If there is one thing I could uninvent it would be the internet.

Being lazy is not something most people can do, they have to cook and clean and feed their family and work to put food on the table and shovel the drive way and keep the garden manicured to stay on good terms with the neighbours, my friend used to say, if you don’t choose to work hard, your bad circumstances will force you to work even harder then that, not saying that all hard working people made bad career choices, what I’m suggesting is that hard work is a necessity and not a choice for most people who did not inherit money or get born with Miranda Kerr legs and looks.

Well, that’s all I hear from old people. How lazy and entitled we are, without knowing a damned thing about me, they are happy to condemn us all with the same wide brush! If anything, I’d say that the modern conveniences have freed up out time, schools and employers have simply found reasons to lay off a bunch of people, and make the individual work even harder for the same pay! So, so does the remote make me feel lazy… sometimes, but does all the hours of work I find myself doing that I’ve been told used to be another employees job, make up for that? Yes, and then some!

Most definitely. And it destroys people's critical thinking skills. But even with technology people still don't read all the information and pay attention to all the details due to our society's selective reading and listening problems. When I used to work in retail the number of people were amazing who walked into the store looking for something and showed you the store's web page on their phone and said, "It says you have it" without reading all the information that says 'Not in store' because you have to order it online!

Technology has definitely spawned laziness, and laziness spawns dumbness. Dumbness spawns failure. Even to the point where people are too lazy to want to go out and meet people and prefer to just look for hookups or dates.

There are benefits from technology no doubt, primarily in terms of communication. But I feel the more technology there is in the world, the farther humans get from their roots and in turn, the less our souls benefit from the circumstances. It's not just affecting laziness. It affects the relationships we have with others. People want to see effort from their peers to reach out to them. Before, that meant visiting someone's house and knocking/ringing their bell or giving them a call. Imagine times before no phone or video chat. There was no other way to talk to someone unless you visited them. Relationships were much stronger because of it. Nowadays, talking to others is a tap away on your phone. If someone feels bored or any other emotion, they can find someone else to talk to in a moment. That's why online dating is so hard.

Haha... didn't really go into depth on laziness, but technology's effects on society as a whole.

It is not only made the lazy but now they think they're entitled and if it breaks they throw it away so that's how they treat their relationships to it would be one thing if there was a piece of technology then you got to or you had to experience it for five years or something before something new came out but it's just rapid fire and everybody's trying to keep up with it everything is cheap and throw away and with all the above that's how they treat people in their lives too they don't care it's all about them everything's that's is Nadar in their life if it breaks or if they don't like it they can get something new tomorrow they do not appreciate anyting this is what I see

Very much so, I often wonder if a solar flare EMP wiped all out all chips and technology, how many people would be able to survive? Such as grow their own food... make their own cloths and protect themselves from the others who can't and get desperate.

I know someone who her dad, rather than ground or take her phone away, would remove all charging cables to all devices... she called him 'evil' for doing that as punishment.

I don't think she even knows how to cook, let alone can (bottle) food for long term storage if you had no electricity.

I think it depends on the person. For many people, modern technology gives them opportunities that they otherwise wouldn't have. For example, getting a college degree online. Some people work their butt off and have a successful Youtube channel. Or other social media platform. For many people, it gives them an opportunity to make connections with other family members. For many people, it gives them the opportunity to get professional help, such as therapy online, which they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford,.

To some extent, for example the microwave replacing the need to learn how to cook. But by the same token, I don't think anyone would argue that a stove top and oven makes the task of cooking easier than having to maintain, manage and clean up a firepit every time you wanted to make dinner. (doubt you could manage that and a full time job without collapsing at some point)

You could argue it all went downhill from the domestication of livestock, as that removed the need for people to hunt, with lives getting more sedentary from then on.

When I eat at a restaurant and then sit in the car I feel it. But am too tired/lazy to get out and walk for a fee minutes. Happened only one time. But was enough for me to come to my senses.

Same with AC remote too.
Sleeping and then just point the remote to it and wow, cold air. I hate AC, but this happened a few times over the past few months.

My wife and I years ago bought the top-of-the-line washer. It had all the electronics you can think of the bells and whistles the tweets and nods in the buttons in that automatic timers and switches. Six months after the purchase I broke down. They wanted $300 for the repair. Six months later the machine broke again. It did this a total six more times which added up to the cost of the machine. We got rid of it and bought an old analog washing machine and haven't had a lick of problems with it since. My advice do not buy the top-of-the-line Electronics with all the little gizmos and switches.

I think it's the opposite of lazy. These conveniences have freed us to work more hours at increasingly mentally challenging jobs leaving us emotionally exhausted.

We exercise less than at any time in history. Our family and community connections are also weaker than previous generations.

Not particularly, no. At least no more so than any other technological advance. I mean thanks to modern agriculture we have a MUCH easier time getting food than we used to. I wouldn't say that makes us "lazy" per se--it just means we spend that time doing other things. And many of those other things are quite productive--hence civilization and all those newfangled "modern" technologies that have been invented.

Yes, many doctors use a computer to do all their work when it comes to patients appointments what will happen when all the computers go down well they got to
switch to paper for the rest of their appointments or send patients home with a new appointment hey stuff does happen... I think both are correct, You dont need to be a world beating chef to cook or to enjoy it. But modern stuff can help get it done quicker. Like my 3 in 1 microwave , it microwaves , normal fan oven and grill.
Just put the food in set the programme , and leave it to do its job. While i can can get on with something else..

In many ways, yes.

When it comes to online dating, people have too much choice and less effort is made because you know there's someone else your type just a few swipes away. Genuine connections made in real life organically are difficult to create in the digital world. People aren't seen as real, just images. No effort is made to really connect.

Also, because of social media. Attention spans are shorter now because we have access to all kinds of distractions on our phones. For a lot of people, their phone owns them, not the other way round. What's really important is being lost. People want to impress strangers more than their friends and partners.

Our minds are not being exercised enough to realise how creative we could be.

But of course, there are many benefits about modern day technology that can't be denied.

I think it is definitely having an effect on people but I think it's also jobs. When I was a kid my dad worked 8 hours a day and could afford the house, groceries, saving money, a vehicle, and also regular vacations every couple months. I make what he made then but am working 14 hours a day. And I can just afford rent, food, and a little bit of spare money for fun. People are getting worn out due to the current economy and I think that is also a major reason.
