Is it possible for me to legally form a private military?

Question

If money wasn't an issue, or is it just not possible for a civilian to form a militia of any form, like a private security company or mercenaries type of group I want an army

Is it possible? Sure. You will go out of business very quickly though without some (extensive and relevant) background, and typically you need some useful political connections too, particularly within the intelligence agencies, most notably the CIA and State Department. The latter is especially notorious for throwing contractors under the bus to cover for themselves though, and many of the smaller companies who have worked for State in the past refuse to do so anymore.

The vast majority of contractors hired to support US (and other government) interests overseas have nothing to do with combat, and are more concerned with construction, logistics, training/schooling, medical personnel, and other things of that nature. The people who run these companies make tons of money, but most of the contractors who aren't in management positions are usually locals basically working for a sophisticated temp agency, and don't make nearly as much as you'd think. Again though, you'd need some personal credentials and connections to make that work, and specific skill demands are too fluid to be considered stable for most people. The public view of PMCs is pretty wildly far fetched from reality (both good and bad), but actual "mercenaries" by definition are practically non-existent outside of Africa and the "foreign legions" of countries like France and Russia. The Chinese use hired guns in large numbers to protect their holdings in Africa and Southwest Asia too, and a lot of the guys who were shafted by the US government have since started taking those contracts instead.

laws are very different at different places, but simply put... the moment you make it private and that means they hired under your payroll, that is very much illegal

mercenaries, imply people hired to murder, that is also illegal

you could have a private security team hired from another company, but that requires paperwork and stuff

but the moment you use it for paramilitary activity... they will go all RICO on you

aside from them the US is home to numerous militia groups, security and military contractors and even a few mercenary groups.

military/security contractors basically are mercenaries though.
