+1 yEx Navy here and married to someone that's about to do 23 years in. Nope... they'll drug test you and that's about it. MEPS will give you some hell about tattoos and shit like that, but that's about it. I was coming out of Los Angeles so they have a thing about catching the gang members early... had a bunch of Marines giving us hell about any and everything. Remember everything you've done as a minor (if you even have a record) is no longer a thing unless you got tried as an adult. The Navy really gives a shit about those drug tests though for some reason. If you can stay clean for 3 months then I don't think you'll have any issues at all. High School education was a factor and you not being a deformed mutant was about it. They'll make you do duck walks and look at you butt hole and cough type stuff. I actually felt sorry for the old black dude that had to look at my butthole... funny.
After that be prepared for the grind. Shots... more shots... and a whole bunch of bullshit.

I still remember the shots in the ass... they darkened the room and started playing Marylin Manson... that beautiful people song. They came through dressed in Holloween outfits and jabbed us in the ass, the made us all pull our pants down and bend over, with the peanut butter shot. Fun stuff... not that bad really. I think having the old Filipinas try to rape me in the dentist's office was worse. Those old chicks were seriously horny. Bet they only do that job just to have sex with you dudes. Not joking about that.
Asker+1 yThey said they would help me get my GED high school diploma
- +1 y
I went in almost going to a 900 division because I played instruments, they ended up putting us all in a regular division and I got to suffer an extra month of sleep deprivation (they don't do that anymore, I guess sleep is something good now). Most of us were schooled and/or had college degrees already. So I don't know first hand about the High School GED people first hand, but from what I have heard it usually didn't turn out well for them. It's like those of us they suckered into trying out for the Seals... once you fail, you now have a extra 6 years tacked onto your initial 3 years. And they make sure you fail. I'll be the first to admit it's a meat grinder in there. Think I ended up spending 6 months just in bootcamp... I had already passed and I was walking around giving recruits shit... telling them to check their gig lines and shit. Probably the only time I wore working dress blues as well. I finally got 3 months of leave, A school where I had to work with the CB's for about 2 months before ever starting school and then tossed out to the USS Shitty Kitty. Where I spent over 6 years dealing with people talking shit about how I grow too much facial hair or any other reason you could think of. I can't tell you what to expect... it's up in the air when you get there. Some people go in and get out in just 3 months with no bullshit. I can tell you all of us watching people come and go were like... when do we get to start and get the fuck out of here? That sleep deprivation was the worst.

+1 yYes, the Navy does conduct a background check as a part of the screening process for applicants. They will conduct a criminal background check, credit check, and review your employment and education history. If there are any issues that arise during the background check that could impact your ability to obtain a security clearance or join the Navy, then it is possible that you could be disqualified. However, it ultimately depends on the specific circumstances of your background check and any disqualifying factors. It is best to be honest and forthcoming about your background during the application process to avoid any potential issues later on.

Asker+1 yThey are not as pretty as the Navy uniforms
Hi Jen,
I do know that one must have at a GED to get in. They have workbook to study for the test.
Back when I was a hostess at the Navy base they didn't require a high school diploma. In fact, if you were in trouble with the law, you had your choice of doing jail time or join the military.
So, this is what you've decided to go for. Everyone here seems to be on yours side and encouraging you - me to.
Where would you like to be stationed? The USS Ronald Reagan is a huge carrier and not that old. I don't know where it is right now 🤷🏼āāļø.
Please let me know if you find out any info. about it. This could be very exciting Jen 🙂15 Reply

Asker+1 y@sage2021 I met another girl here on GaG and she is in the Navy and I got interested because I wonāt have to worry about rent or groceries and I will be on a ship š¢ traveling around the world. Maybe I will see other GaG friends? Like @Kelly6 in Spain or @reddy4it in Australia. Do you know anyone that lives near a Port where Navy ships š¢ can go?

No, sorry I don't.
After we graduated from high school my girlfriend's and I would get all dressed up and pile in the car and go to the Navy base to meet guys.
One of my best friend, Dina, met a guy, they got married and we're first stationed the n Hawaii for 10 years; then to Scotland for his last 10 years. Pretty cool huh?
I suppose they do , but if you don't try you will never know, if you expect to be turned down then it won't be a disappointment, but if accepted then a whole new world could open up, but stay in touch whatever

Asker+1 yI donāt think I have to worry
+1 yItās a light background check. As long as you donāt smoke weed heavy or committed any crimes in the past youāll pass. If you have any other citizenship in other country it may take additional paperwork. Donāt have overwhelming debts, youāll be fine. Itās not that hard to get into the military, once youāre in maintain yourself as debt free as possible and as free of crimes and tickets as possible youāll be fine.
