Do you get homesick when you are away from home? (Whether it be away at college, on a vacation, spending the night somewhere, moving to a new home, or moving towns, states, and/or countries.)
I am curious to know if others also get homesick or if they enjoy being away from home. If you do get homesick, how do you “cure" it? 🥴 ...My answer: I do! I usually try to bring something from home to make me more comfortable…. But, I am going on almost a month-long trip out of town with my boyfriend, in less than 12 hours. It will be about a 10-hour drive to the house. We are babysitting his little siblings while his parents are taking a trip to Europe for a couple of weeks. I have never left the town, state, or country for more than maybe a week and a half… So, I know I will feel a bit homesick sooner or later😬I wish I could do this, lol.
I get homesick very easily and have all of my life. Why shouldn't I because all my stuff that makes my environment that makes me comfortable are at home. This is a hard question to answer because I haven't found a way to deal with it other than to go back home earlier than I planned. I actually get sick to my stomach sometimes because it can be very stressful to be homesick. Sorry I didn't have any solutions for you, but there is so much technology now, that you can use to talk to people and have face time.
VERY much so!! I don't!! Hardly a week goes by that I don't come to tears over the great loss I suffered at the hand of those two evil, greedy fucking cunts!!! I probably lost well over a million dollars worth of stuff because of them!! Most of which can NEVER be replaced! Especially not the memories and the many family heirlooms that were just tossed into a fucking garbage dump, somewhere!!! Parts of my life that I'll NEVER get back again!! Recordings I've made when I was a kid and have no other copies of, home movies and the like, stuff that was ONLY worth something to the family (except for those two ignorant cunts!!) I'm reminded of this almost every fucking day!! Partly because the only reason I'm even here IN this house is because of those two vicious fucking cunts!!! It's not a prison, but it SURE AS FUCK FEELS like one!!! I miss MY fucking house!!! And ALL the stuff I had in it!!
i felt nomadic or like some type of guest-migrant when my parents moved out from the country i was born (Germany) when i was 15 years old into the moneyless east. There was homesickness, depression, abuse, neglect, you name it.
How i deal with it? By being on meds and antidepressants today still. Living alone and making my own money. In April this year i moved back to Germany alone. That came At a heavy price. i feel safer here Even if i have no one here.
Now there is no reason for me to be homesick anymore. I sought pragmatic ways, money and the effort expended towards moving back to Germany, not so much on GAG or memes or nonsense.
Yep, the trick is to immerse yourself in activities where you are. At college, there are plenty of things going on all the time, such as sports stuff, various clubs to get involved with, and Sororities, if that’s your thing.
As an adult moving to a new place was a bit more of a challenge. But the first thing I did was find the museums, and libraries. After that, exploring the restaurant scene, and other things unique to my new city. Immerse yourself in where you are going. You’ll still be homesick sometimes, but it will be helpful to enjoy your new surroundings. Good luck!
When I feel homesick, I tend to associate myself more with that part of myself. For example, eating food from my countries or talking in a certain language, watching movies or tv shows, talking to my friends who are there. That however, doesn't work for everybody, so when it doesn't work for me. I try to appreciate where I am more like going out, meeting new people and appreciated the culture around me a bit more.
Occasionally when I'm away from my family for an extended period of time I feel kinda 'disconnected' with them, so it does make me feel a bit lonely or homesick if you will.
In order to counteract this feeling I keep in contact with my mom and papa whenever possible at the very least a few times every week or two.
We moved around too much growing up for me to ever really get "homesick" over any particular house or town or whatever. Nowadays I have the opposite problem where I'm "back home" in my home state, and I feel like I want to gtfo of here and go back to other places I've lived & traveled. Sometimes I even miss Afghanistan.
Rarely.. Only when I'm away from my home. When I was a kid I was never home sick, because I was constantly bumped from foster home to foster home, because my drug addicted prostitute mother refused to grow up and prioritize her son over her addictions and vagina.

My parents are divorced. I'm homesick for our family the way it used to be before my mom went crazy and kicked my dad out to move in her new boyfriend. I ended up sleeping with her new boyfriend and she has never forgiven me or my older sister for doing the same. he's a real bad guy and my mother became a whole other person the day she met him. He's controlling, manipulative and abusive to her, she's lost a lot of weight and behaves like a crazy woman.
I travel a lot and I try to keep busy on short trips. Usually when I'm out of town I try to go places that I've never been before. If I'm moving away from home. I tried to find local establishments that people my age patronize. If it's short trips I just remember that I will be home.
Being in the military, I move around a lot. I often times feel lonely because I don’t have my family by my side like I used to. Best thing I do is FaceTime my parents and my siblings. Makes the feeling of loneliness a little less lonely.
Well you're taking an important thing from home to comfort you, your boyfriend. No I don't easily get homesick I enjoy the experience of being away and seeing different things, people and their customs and ways of life that may differ from mine.
I've been feeling really homesick for the last couple of days 😕 I keep myself busy so I don’t think about it, listen to some music, facetime my mum, etc 😅
Gone for the weekend is ideal for me. One week is the absolute max for me when it comes to being away. I battle being homesick by not trying to make my current stay look like it's home. Embrace the new environment, have a look around.
hmmm no… the times that I have travelled away from home, I was just fine and I didn’t think about it much at all. but I do think I would get homesick nowadays since I have the best roommates ever🤣
I have the middle class white way to cure my sicknesses, Pepto bismol, ginger ale, chicken broth or chicken noodle soup, and Gatorade. Also I have some Tylenol and Ibuprofen with me. If its a stomach ache and its really bad I buy milk of magnesia.
