What side of the envelope does the stamp go on?

I don't wish to be finger pointy - that said you're 43 and asking how to use an envelope. That's pretty shameful if you consider yourself an adult. Surely you've received mail, or even seen it in TV or film?


That aside. Envelopes have two sides. One that's plain paper, this is the front. The other has joins and seams visibly as well as the opening for the letter, that's the back.


You'll need to put the address on the front, try to orientate it so the opening is on the top as you're writing it. Any other way and you'll seem like a man child who doesn't know how envelopes work. You'll then need a stamp for the mail, take it to the post office ask them to stamp it and post it. Usually they'll do the stamp sticking themselves. But if they don't and just give you the stamp, then put it on the top right corner. Then post it.

As far as I can remember, a stamp (or: stamps) are glued on the upper right corner of the face that's opposite of the closing ''lid''.

I'm surprised that 'they' even still MAKE stamps. That's so... ''ancient'' :D

Same side as you put the addresses on, upper right hand corner, generally. Traditionally, you could write the destination address on the flap, but the return address and stamp still had to be on the other side. Return address upper left and stamp upper right.

Ours says nothing about a stamp in the middle, regardless of shape.

@dustybiker No worries. I was going to say the same thing, I just didn't get back to it. I know custom in a lot of other countries is to put the return address on the back flap. But the stamp, as far as I know, goes on the top right everywhere I know of.

In the US, the stamp goes in the upper right corner of the side with the recipient's address. The sender's return address should be in the upper left corner of that side.
