If you can find a nice house, for yourself, and can afford to keep it for AT LEAST 5 years, with no financial concern or hardship whatsoever (and I'd extend that general rule of 5 years to more like 7 or 10, now), and you can afford the interest rate that you'd be offered right now (shop around, even in these times), then you could go for it. No because the output of money has not changed. It has simply moved laterally and in fact one probably loses. Either the Owner makes monies or the Bank. Sell amount is the same or even more if the Bank is making the money in interest... from a crashed Economy and Market. Some investor like my self will give 30,000 over in cash so that seller can transition into a 12 month lease easily. If you are sitting on 350-500,000 cash then wait !!
