I suspect this is often the case, maybe the majority of times. I'm trying to remember if I've ever gotten flowers. I've gotten live house plants before, but I can't think of any cut flowers. It's not like I'm missing anything important though.

I do cut my own flowers in the spring though. I cut peony and lilac in the spring and put them in a few vases scattered around the house. I like the smell. I usually give them to a couple of my female neighbors also.

i mean most men don't want flowers. i don't. so why would people just give them to me. putting flowers on a grave isn't so much "giving the person flowers". it's more just a way for the still living person to cope with the loss. it helps with the mourning process. it certainly doesn't do anything for the one who died.

I guess it is made to express the fact the men aren't valued like women. Just in other words. They don't really mean giving the literal flowers, it means that they don't get enough attention and love as women do. There is a message behind that line.

I'm from the Midwest US. With traditional funerals becoming increasingly less common, many families ask that friends and family make a donation to a local charity or community group in lieu of sending flowers.

It really depends on whether families want a more traditional funeral service, or a celebration of life service (this is becoming increasingly popular with those in the mid/late Baby Boomer generation and after). Unless there's a flag on the casket, the family usually provides a casket spray and accompanying altar piece. I've arranged funerals with only a couple floral tributes, and had some where I needed two service vehicles just to transport all the flowers to the cemetery. But it's quite common to see in obituaries or funeral notices where families ask for donations to a church in lieu of flowers.

I see. Honestly I wouldn't want flowers, but instead photos of me, my friends and family. Looking at those will allow those attending to reminisce and be glad that we had good times together.

Usually the only flowers men get around here are boutonnieres for formal events, or if they end up in the hospital. I've sent flowers to guys in the hospital. One guy I sent flowers to said he felt "pretty sissy" getting flowers from me lol. He wanted some magazines and books instead :-)

Honestly I think what gift it is does not really matter. It could be a book, flowers, balloons, a nice video of friends and family showing support.

What matters is the reason behind gifting. (Although admittedly, useful gifts are nice)

I think because most men don't care about receiving flowers throughout their life. Most men would want some other type of gift. It's kind of like saying most women will go their entire life without receiving ratchet sets as gifts.

Good analogy. Men prefer gifts they can use. I think it depends on the individual though. There may be a small minority that likes flowers, we never know. Its up to the partner who is buying the gift, to pay attention to what their partner likes.

That's because flowers are a waste if money. Even my wife hates the idea of me throwing money away on flowers. Of course, she is much more pragmatic and less controlled by emotions than most women.
