When was the last time you were given an award or recognition for some sort of achievement?

Tonight was a big night for ya boy, but I can’t brag to my friends because they’re all sleeping, so I thought I’d call attention to myself here instead under the clever disguise of a question😝

I just started playing hockey about a year and a half ago. I’ve been steadily improving but hockey is TOUGH, it’s definitely not an overnight thing to just learn from the ground floor, especially as an adult with limited options for coaching and not getting the usual development over the course of childhood like most hockey players.

I joined an alleged “novice” league, but the players aren’t really novices, so it’s been a struggle. Two goals and two fights in two and a half seasons lmao. It’s a little discouraging sometimes to have to play with guys who shouldn’t be at that level, but it is what it is.

Anyway, tonight we had a game, and I played really well. I didn’t score any goals, but I had several assists, a couple other goals were scored off of rebounds from my shots, and I made some pretty nice passes that were either to someone behind my back or I made a quick turnaround and spotted a target for the pass. I made almost no mistakes. My team was really excited for me, cheering and giving me fist bumps every time I came back to the bench. Haven’t felt this since I was still playing football.

After the game, in the locker room, I was given the “game shillelagh” (our team is called the Leprechauns) that we give to the player of the game each week. I’m just stoked, big milestone in my journey of hockey. Still lots of improvement needed, but this was the boost I needed and something to build on.
