What’s the most traumatizing thing that’s ever happened to you?

Two things actually

1 - While my family vacationed in Wisconsin, my uncle Lee took me to one of those mile long center pivot irrigation systems. I was 5-7 and we went to the tail end section. He let me turn on the manual activation switch. Then he started running like hell and said come on run quick before we get wet! We got back to his truck and we didn’t get wet but I saw the big tires of the massive long giant of pipes connected together and I saw the water coming out of that thing. I started shaking and crying, I was so scared. We left and he took me to a little convenient store and he let me get a grape popsicle that was 2 feet long. Yes there were such things back then in the 80’s. To this day if I see one far off I’m ok. But I can’t stand being anywhere close to one even while driving on the road.

2 - My guess is when my class and I were on a field trip, we stopped at Pizza Hut for lunch. Everyone wanted a latex balloon and it didn’t really bother me till the idiot who inflated them didn’t know what they were doing and overinflated it with the helium and it exploded and scared me. We were getting ready to leave in different students parents cars, then the others got into the one I was in and they gathered around me and started running their fingers over their balloons making them squeak. Some of them popped and I shook and cried and screamed. The driver who was mother to one of the students told all of them to leave me alone. They did. But none of them apologized. To this day I believe I have Globophobia - fear of balloons. I am ok with Mylar and water balloons but if I hear a latex balloon being inflated, or see one being inflated by someone blowing it up or if someone has a latex balloon on a string, I will run you down trying to get to the door.

Oh basically my parents fought mostly verbally for years. These arguments would last till the late hours of the night forcing me to sleep to sounds of idiotic arguments

It kills me when parents won’t just separate, if for not other reason, for the sake of their kid (s). They think they HAVE to be together or it’ll
Hurt their kid, when in reality staying together does much worse in my opinion

I have no doubt. I’m sorry to say the cliche things, but you are so strong and I’m so proud of you for still being here, I’m sure it’s not easy. Almost every girl I know has a story of sexual assault and other than maybe having my butt grabbed at a concert, I can’t say I’ve ever experienced anything like it. I’m very lucky but I seem to be in the minority. And it’s a shame how people often don’t take rape victims seriously or victim blame. And then almost murder on top of that, I’m very paranoid and am always looking out for people with I’ll intentions. So scary.

That’s so scary. It’s mind boggling to me how sexual the us is and our media is, but when women do sexual things in their personal life it’s often used against them. It’s never “how could you take private, personal pics of a MINOR at that, and post them everywhere” but “how could you have let that happen to you?” To the person who did nothing wrong
