Well this isn't the case for "mature" women, but when it is the case, it is basically just the female equivalent of a man insisting he is hypothetically invincible.
No of course he couldn't be robbed by a robber, he would always hear them coming or see as soon as they made the slightest movement to pull out a weapon, and he would immediately disarm them with one swift motion and either beat them up, turn them over to police, or make them so scared they will never rob again. Besides he would never be out without his own weapon, and he is so big and strong, nobody would try to rob him in the first place.
No of course he would never be stranded on the highway, if he couldn't call or walk somewhere he would just change a tire by brute force even without all the tools needed, and anyways he would never be caught driving without his tools or cell service so far out of town, and ANYWAYS he would never get a flat tire in the first place, because he can see every nail and screw on the road and would expertly dodge them to avoid such a situation.
Obviously "mature" men don't do this type of thing and can actually answer a hypothetical question and have a realistic perception of their abilities. But a lot of men will absolutely not entertain the idea that they could be in any situation where they don't have complete control over themselves and the outcome. And this is how some women argue, in instantiated situations rather than hypotheticals. Hypothetically they accept they could be wrong, but won't accept that they even might be in the present. Same thing though. This has been my experience.
