What kind/ form of Road Kill have you observed in your state?

- I visited Florida once, and noticed the lizards there, were as numerous as pigeons to New York.

In my current state, it’s common to see: Deer 🦌, raccoons 🦝, squirrels 🐿 , Opossums, bunnies 🐰, and etc.

I was wondering if Floridians would see some crocodiles or iguanas on the side of the road, possibly? Lol

so what roadkill is (unfortunately) common to your state?

I intended and do know, that there are some GaG users from different countries. Would be cool to see what kind of roadkill gets caught up in their traffic ways.

These all deserve most helpful opinions because it’s all geographical. Don’t wanna hit certain critters when out traveling and with the variety here, safe to say ALWAYS DRIVE CAREFUL lol

Deer, squirrels, raccoons, possums, skunks, rabbits, chipmunks, foxes, coyotes, fisher cats, porcupines, beavers, frogs, snakes, turtles, turkeys, seagulls, pigeons. Very occasionally, bear, but I’ve never seen a dead one. Drove by what looked like a police standoff on the highway median, and realized they had a bear surrounded with rifles and riot pumps and all that jazz. Turns out the bear was injured, it had been hit trying to cross the highway, so I think they ultimately hit it with a tranq dart and brought to a wildlife center for care. I saw a bobcat one night a couple hours west of here where I used to live. Hadn’t been hit, it just crossed in front of me. Have yet to see a dead one, so just “potential” roadkill at this point. I think that about covers most of what we have crossing the streets as far as wild animals.

Wow that’s one heck of a story 👀 it’s too common to not enforce some kind of barriers for them while promoting safe travel for them. Someone somewhere came up with an underground tunnel for them and they seen a fox or coyote and a deer use it maybe a fox and deer. I don’t remember but it was nice 😭👐

Yeah, where I used to live there was a small tunnel under the street made for a certain species of endangered salamander, and there were “Salamander X-ing” signs right before it. Not sure how much it helped, but I guess I never really saw dead salamanders in the street, so maybe it worked great, I don’t know, haha

I hit a deer recently. I was so upset that I called my fella. He laughed and threw it into the back. He made me help skin it, boke 🤮 . Then of course I had to cook some of it up for Sunday lunch.

Wow I wish I could catch the dogs 😭.

On insta I seen a story where a couple found a dog injured on the highway.

Their heart sank and cars had not only hit her but were skimming her.

I mean she needed casts I do believe but they went back. The husband told her “it’s probably dead (her name).”

She couldn’t bear it, so they went back- DOG WAS ALIVE. Was holiday season. They called in an emergency at the vet clinic. Closest ones weren't open so they went to a far one out and had called in so they wouldn’t close. Got her treated urgently, and brought her back with little hope of recovery and survival alone. She finally ate. Stubbornly tried to walk so they had to lay her down until she was well to do so, and then she eventually got her strength back. Amazing story. Crazy part was she was a full-on Poodle. They found she was pure bred too! I was in just as much disbelief as they were about who had left their dog on the highway. It was on purpose I think? Or that’s what the new owner had believed.

Damn right! That pup was a miracle. I have a poodle, he was dumped near my house. Most animals I've had all my life made their way to me like that. People can be totally sick sometimes

But you’re so right, people can be sick like that sometimes. I can only believe a person who would let that happen to a dog physically, had somehow faced what that dog faced, but they faced it emotionally. An injured and skimmed heart.

I kinda hope that would be the reason instead of anyone willingly doing such a thing..

And even then, it’s still not okay and terrible to do that if anyone has been hurt. We strive to be better, yk?

I've never seen a gator by the road (in fact, I've only encountered one gator at all here, but then, I'm pretty far north), but I've seen a BUTTLOAD of armadillos. Also, it's only the VERY southern bits of Florida that see crocodiles; alligators are all over the state (including in the crocodile parts, which is very strange), but you'll only see crocs north of Miami in zoos.

Oh, a surprising number of things can; if that armor kept EVERYTHING out, then nothing would kill them, and they'd evade all their predators and eat themselves into starvation. What you REALLY have to watch out for is when some mad scientist combines that armor with spiked quills and creates porcadillos. Incredibly hard to kill, but DAMN, doesn't that name make them sound delicious?

Raccoons skunks and possums were very common since they were night dwellers. Deer are rare and squirrels are littered in a lot of neighborhoods because they suicide j-walk and hesitate so often.

I've been told I'm a really good driver. I've driven a couple thousand miles, so far and never had a single accident, except the time I was sitting in traffic and the car very slowly drifted forward a few inches and touched the bumper of the car in front of me. I was a 12 year old kid and my sister and I were traveling with our father. Ahead of us the traffic slowed. When we got up to it, it was an accident involving a semi rig carrying a bunch of live chickens. Chickens were running everywhere. I remember watching one of the workers kicking the chickens off the road and killing them in the process. I asked my dad why? He said because they’re a hazard that can cost peoples lives
