My vinyl record collection was gone long ago. I don't actually know what happened to it. I assume I sold it, but I don't remember doing it. I don't even remember when it happened. I do know that I sold off most of my records in the late 70s, then started over and worked back up to around 500 records. I just don't remember what happened to them.
I have some vinyl LPs that I got from a friend when he moved. These were all the leftovers that nobody wanted when he sold the rest. So most are not good music. I do have an old turntable, but it's not connected to the stereo.
As for CDs, my collection is still growing, but slowly. It's not a big collection compared to some people. Most of the CDs I play now come from the library. They have thousands of them. These days I might only buy 2-3 CDs per year. Almost all of my CDs were bought used.
"I used to love going to Tower Records in San Francisco"
I used to go to Tower in Sacramento. I buy most of my CDs used, and I can't remember if Tower sold used CDs. There were several small stores in Sacto that I bought most of my CDs from. I haven't lived there for over 20 years though. Now I mostly buy on Ebay, but there are a couple of local stores i still go to. There are several Goodwill stores selling on EBay - the one I've bought from recently resurfaces all CDs, so they are like new but with used prices.
You probably remember head shops that sold records, concert tickets, along with "head gear". Where I live now still has a couple of surviving head shops that I went to in the 70s. Most have disappeared though.

Yes, I have a box full of old record albums. The Beach Boys, Beatles, Springsteen, Crosby Stills and Nash, and so many others. I hardly listen to them. I also have quite a few CDs and a few cassettes. There was a Tower Records around here. There was also a record store in town when I first moved here. I used to like to go in there and got through the closeout shelf and see what gem I could pick up for 2 or 3 bucks.
I have a big stack of CDs. As for LPs I would have to go dig through my basement closet to see if there are any there.

Audiophiles actually prefer vinyl to digital for true sound quality.
I still have lots of LPs from the mid-60s through the 70s. I had a big record collection back then and saved them all. I also inherited my grandfather's collection of LPs and.45s. He had very eclectic tastes.
I also like the cover art and inserts that came with LPs.
I have lots of CDs, tooABSOLUTELY!! My records are my life!! Besides, I've only got about 60,000 of them.
The `60's was the best music!! The early `80's were a VERY close second.- u
Yes, I have. I still like to have hard copies of movies and music.
They are, I'm sad to say, long gone. Never had LPs but had hundreds of CDs. They were too heavy and overcome by digital.
