I would like to try horse camping in the mountains, but I would want to ride some before I went so I could walk again.
Horses aren't really my thing, but that is just me.
I do work as an EMT at a local horse park in the summer.
They do dressage.
It's kind of interesting, but it's pretty much the same thing all day long.10 Reply

+1 yI've been on an out-of-control horse who was determined to kill me. Not sure if that is considered riding a horse. I spent the entire time watching my life flash before my eyes and desperately trying to find the brakes.
Actually I've been on a horse 3-4 times, but none of them were truly riding it.

I'm exaggerating a little for dramatic effect, but not exaggerating by much. It's bad enough when they are just running. But when they run under low tree branches you'd better be ready to duck.
I was always told that the rider needs to take control. The horse knows if you are an amateur and will take full advantage of it.
So have you been riding? - +1 y
You should go sometime just to experience something new. The times I've gone were because I knew people who had horses. Or you can also pay to take lessons. I have no idea how much it costs.

Yes, a good childhood friend of mine did it regularly and sometimes I was allowed to go with her. Sometimes it was just seeing or petting the horses but on other occassions I was allowed to ride them too. They were allways led on a leash (wrong word for this with horses probably) as I didn't know how to really ride a horse myself. It allways was great fun fun while I like horses it was nothing I wanted do as my main hobby.
10 ReplyYeah I actually ride horses and work in stables. I broke my hand/wrist falling off a horse 6 months ago and I haven’t ridden since because the injury just isn’t healing. It’s super annoying cause I’ve been riding since I was 6yrs old and I was getting ready for some competitions and stuff.
13 Reply- +1 y
OMG! I am so sorry! Will it heal anytime soon?
- +1 y
@Furious_Revelation19 I have another X-ray and appointment in 6 days so hopefully it’s healed by then. I’m still having pain and instability in my hand and my wrist doesn’t move as well, so there’s a chance it hasn’t healed. My hand therapists checked it over a few weeks ago and there were pains where she was pressing and apparently that means that there’s still healing to do. So if it hasn’t healed, I could need surgery (I originally needed surgery but the surgeon decided not to). But who knows anymore cause it never heals by any appointments.

Oh no! I hope it all works out for you!! I am sure it will! :)
Do you feel comfortable giving some advice, or just chatting?
Not riding freely.
Like a pony ride when i was a kid. Where someone holds the reigns and slowly walks the horse around in a circle.

+1 yWhen I was a wee kiddo... always wondered though... horseback riding... was riding a different part of the horse a thing? Why did they feel they needed to specify?
13 Reply- +1 y
might amuse any onlookers though... entertainment value you know
+1 ySeveral times. Lots of fun. Funny story, I went with some friends and a buddy of mine had a horse that was a chronic pooper and we had to avoid being behind him most of the day. The poor horse must have had a stomach issue but it made for a humorous ride.

+1 yYes. My parents had horses before I was born. I rode until high school and then started riding regularly again a few years ago. I haven't been to the barn in a year though. I miss it.

+1 yI've been horseback riding frequently since I was about eight, I've always liked it but it's rather exhausting at times, and sometimes you realize that you're completely not in control of a specific horse because they're too much for you, and that's always terrifying.

+1 yYeah. When i was young, my best friend’s mother kept, boarded and trained horses. I never went far, just around the corral, and never without supervision.
