Are people generally lazier, these days?

I think that depends on where you look. If you're just talking about people preferring the escalator over the stairs, don't forget that these things benefit the disabled as much as they do the able-bodied. But it's not like the entire world is becoming sedentary, there are still trade jobs, jobs where you have to move around lift and whatnot, or having jobs period.
People often mistake comfort for laziness, from what I've seen, as if it's so bad to be comfortable in a public setting. I agree there are limits in public versus private, but wanting to wait in like to take an escalator isn't the same as choosing not to work and mooch off of someone else.
Yesterday a man who looked like he was in his 70’s shuffled over to me while I was putting my helmet on.
He asked me which way to a specific road was the shortest. That he was new to the area. I told him it was really far, about 6-7 miles.
I was wondering if he was dementing. But he chuckled as if he had walked to the store first. As he thanked me and walked off he was much more spry. I think he had just been being cautious.
He reminded me of my aunt who used to walk miles and miles across England just to do some shopping. This man wasn’t lazy either.
@AmeerX Exactly.
Thanks for mho.
Some places in the world still have to. I wonder if we’ll have to again with society crumbling as it is.
@VanillaSalt He could have just preferred to. His reasons could be anything.
@ameerx That makes sense.
Well actually this picture shows lemming like behavior rather that laziness. People generally do as a group. It’s funny but a study once managed to control an entire mob by putting one person up front then the crowd followed the guy up front that wasn’t even part of the mob.
That being said yes. People are definitely lazier.
Lemmings aren’t lazy their brainless.
People are always tempted. All they need is a Reason to think it’s ok and they will break formation to make life easier or better… Like traffic stopped on the highway. We’re all sitting there but as soon as the first person breaks off and crosses the grassy divide 5 other people that saw him follow.
Of these people in a rush, if they saw someone using the stairs, they would follow immediately. It’s rare for people to put forth more effort than is necessary. So if you putting in the bare minimum is that really lazy?
thanks for MHO
Yes, covid has made everyone lazy. Lots of people have gotten used to "work " from home. My kids all work from home and they are always working out or doing stuff around the house or going shopping. Nobody does a 40 hour week anymore.

Look up how many hours a medieval peasant had to work and compare it to your work schedule.
And then get ready for that recession that’s about to hit and take a significant amount of jobs away…yay for one person having to do the work of a fully staffed store with no increase in pay!
I think standing for possibly hours vs going up the stairs would probably be less effort. But lol.
I think this more explains the sheep mentality. Following the herd. If even one person uses the stairs others will probably follow. They are probably almost in a hypnotic trance and are just standing there.
I would say yes. There's many jobs and nobody wants to go get them. But at the same time nobody wants to work them either.
Yes , ever since the pandemic people have become lazy with no work ethnic and just want things handed to them , and with marijuana legalized a lot more people are high and don’t want to do shit , world is doomed
yes, we are...
"convenience, efficiency, progress"
Oh gosh that is sad! Lol! I have never seen a set of stairs so empty… in general though I would agree that they are.
not just Covid made people lazy, it has been going that way now for many years,
Lemmings. Each one following the one ahead of them
Yes. Some people are almost completely sedentary. Sleep, get up and ready, drive to work at a desk job, then drive home and spend the night watching television.
I think the cold makes me lazy.
And I don't know why stairs are healthier in general
I'm so lazy I don't even feel like finishing this sente
Yes. I love running up the stairs with no one in my way.
I think they are , people order groceries instead of walking around the store.
That picture! Wow. That would have to be the ultimate in laziness.
Sure, you can view it that way. Or when you smart for making things that make life easier. Generally tho, you are correct as a society we have become absolutely more lazy
Yes every day activities can now be done with just a push of a button
