Plants and animals do talk to you. Plants will tell you what they need by their color and when they need water.
Animals will also tell you when something is wrong with them by their actions and show you love.
Just because plants and animals don’t speak your language. Doesn’t mean that they don’t communicate with you..

Cows eat grass- they give me milk for cheese or so.

Chemically engineered would also mean making something without emotions or thought. Just the nutrient part.
