4.7K opinions shared on Other topic. I pulled a couple of people out of the water. I'm not sure you could say that they were dying - more like just scared I think - but I prevented something actually bad from happening.
But the one that did have potential was an older lady who was in an accident - a truck ran a red light and hit her. She was in an old 80s car with a bench seat, and got T-boned in the driver's side, centered on the door hinge, and it must have broken a fuel line, because pretty quickly after, there was black smoke coming from under the hood (at which point I was already getting out of my car) and as I was running towards her, I could start to see some orange flames licking out from under the buckled hood. I went to the driver's side, but I quickly figured out that the door was jammed shut from the impact. I went around to the passenger side, got that door open, but she'd pushed towards the middle and was sitting on top of the seat belt latch. Because of the fire, I cut the seat belt and started to pull her out, and someone else had arrived and helped me get her out.
About the time we'd pulled her out of the car, two guys arrived from different directions with fire extinguishers - a trucker and someone from a motel across the street - and they got the fire out. 3 or 4 very long minutes later, the first police car showed up, and fire was about a minute behind them. The lady wasn't badly hurt - no broken bones or anything, but she was very shook up. The guy who ran the light stayed on the other side of the street, so I don't know what he told the police, but there were plenty of witnesses who saw him run the light.

A kid was drowning, I hopped in the pool with my street clothes and swam with him over my shoulder until I got him to standing depth, he was really far from it and the pool was pretty much empty of adults
Asker+1 yDamn, right on man 👍
You're young too. You've had quite a life already it sounds like- +1 y
I think I'm lucky to have been near, I didn't do anything special and it was a human thing to do, thank you for the appreciation though 🥰
Asker+1 yFor sure! I'd like to think anyone would, but sadly I don't know.
I think it's pretty awesome what you did- +1 y
And I think it's really special that you've dedicated a question for this, you also deserve a Halo 😇
Asker+1 yLol, thanks man. Figured it was appropriate
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yI saved a kid from choking once by calling it out.. but nah and depending on who it is I might not. I mean if I see a fat bitch with pink hair with "rainbow pride" on her shirt choking I'm not stopping to help. Esspecially not since I haven't gotten their right to consent it needs to be a verbal yes.. But if it's a normal person then sure. Most humans suck tho so its better if most dies

Opinion Owner+1 yHow about you?
Asker+1 yJesus. That's crazy! Glad you all survived.
Only once for me. I did CPR on an OD victim. (Victim of his own choices anyway)

Asker+1 yThen I guess she'll burn eventually 🤷♂️

Yes, last year my neighbor, who I don't know, was dying of a heroin overdose. I was parking my van and his 20 some son, whom I'd never met, came running over and asked if I had any Narcan.
He then led me to his dad, lying in the driveway, not breathing. I don't know CPR outside of TV, but I dropped to my knees and did my best, while I called 911.
The 5 minutes or so it took paramedics to arrive felt like an eternity.
After they arrived, and got him breathing, the cop was asking where the mans son was.
He'd told me he had a warrant and split before they got there.
Two things struck me about this incident :
1- Would you leave your not breathing father in the care of a complete stranger who admits he's guessing at CPR to try to avoid a trip to jail.
(what the young man didn't realize is that the cops are not serving non felony warrants here anymore).
I see the man from time to time. He's never thanked me, nor even acknowledges my existence.
I wouldn't hesitate for a second to do it again.21 Reply

+1 yMaybe. I can't say for sure what would have happened otherwise, but they may have died, or at least been seriously injured.
One time was an "adrenaline moment" that you sometimes hear about, when you suddenly get stronger than you normally are. A guy was pole vaulting and I was sitting next to the pit. When he was about 12-13 feet in the air his pole snapped. He was falling head first toward the concrete pole catcher. I jumped out and caught him.
I've also used the Heimlich maneuver on someone who was choking.

+1 yI stopped my childhood friend from killing himself.
His mother called me over when I was 22 and he was locked in the bathroom. She started screaming to kick the door open. When I finally broke it open he started attacking me. His mom was screaming that she called an ambulance and he was trying to leave the house so we got into a whole fistfight which wasn't fun because he boxxed and trained in jujitsu and he's bigger than me and his hands feel like bricks so it was maybe about 70% him just kicking my ass. I still have scars from us throwing eachother into the furnature. He literally was on a mission to die that day.

+1 yI helped lots of people who were caught in a rip tide and had no clue what to do, but cannot say any would have died. Also performed the Heimlich Maneuver on two different people.

You guys have seen some shit in your lives. I'm impressed
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yYeah I stabilized and performed CPR on a woman that had been in an accident. Took first responders 37 minutes to arrive at the scene and she would come and go. It was an exhausting time. She ended up losing her leg and I broke a couple of her ribs during chest compressions but she survived
10 ReplyYes was volunteering at the beach as safety marshal, little boy got caught up with a branch in the water and went under, went in, cut his swimming trunks off with my knife, and pulled him out the water, off-duty cop gave him CPR, job done,

To start off i was born in Germany.
Parents claimed they never had money. The little pocket money i got was all spent on food.
In 2010 they moved to the eastern country, that can't leave Ukraine alone.
At that point i was starving enough to pass out a few times. Needless to say about abuses and neglect.
Long story short i ripped my ass, sacrificed my time and all my teenage and 20s just to get back to Germany in 2022 all by myself.
I no longer starve and am no longer being abused. I've been frequenting the hospitals a lot in the past few years.
So yeah. I saved myself.
Asker+1 yWow..
