I wouldn't say rich is all dependent on how much money you earn. It's more about how much you earn and free time.

If you make 100k a year but work 6 days a week with only Sunday been your day off, then have to spend other extra time doing paperwork or whatever I don't know. I would say you are poor as hell.

Now if your sat there every weekday chilling in a pool while making 100K a year without doing much other than some meetings and calls then you are rich af.

I have no job, don't get much a month but considering the fact my only real responsibility is some small hours charity work on Thursdays and Fridays I would say I am rich because I can live off what I get without doing any real work. Meaning I have all the free time which is real point of rich.

As a rich investor said once maybe paraphrasing don't remember exactly "I didn't invest for the money, I invested so now I have free time with my family without worrying I won't be there for them too busy working."

Since the US dollar (and not only) lost 99% of it's value when it first was employed, 100K today is likely to be worth half of it after 30 years, meaning 100K in 30 years is the same as making 50K today.

Therefore making 100K today might be considered as rich today and average in 30 years.

I consider someone to be rich if that person can outright buy a new Ferrari (or whatever) without a loan or lease. Just buy a Ferrari, pay the full amount and voila. THAT is someone, who I consider is rich. No need to reduce expenses in other areas.

For a family with say, 3 kids and a stay at home wife, I'd say "rich" would be $400k or more a year. For a single person, perhaps $250k a year.
