In terms of being loyal, loving, playful, affectionate and demanding, do you think that cats are highly underrated?

It seems like there's a popular view of dogs as these super demanding, hyper, playful and affectionate pets while cats seen as more reserved loners. And while I agree that on average dogs need more attention than cats, I also think cats need a lot more attention (and can be more loyal and affectionate) than most people realize. In fact I would also argue that there's significant overlap between the most demanding cats and the most reserved dogs.

And if you're getting a cat because you can't give a dog as much as attention that it would need, make sure the individual cat you are getting has a reserved personality.

I'm not against people having cats as pets, but because I've been the target of many unprovoked attacks upon my person by many cats, I'll never have a cat in my home.

I was torn into badly by a farm cat when I was a little kid. I believe that my fear of them since then has been the reason for the continued attacks upon me as my life has unfolded.

I wouldn't know the first thing about the individuality of different cats.

I steer far clear of cats.

I think you don't have to empty (walk) a cat, it can take care of that itself, but they do need snuggle and play time. If you're not going to do that, why would you have a pet in the first place?

Yes, cats are underrated. My cat is loving and cuddly. He waits in the living room window for me to get home and meets me at the door with happy mews when I get in. At night, he sleeps perched on my hip.

I totally agree! Cats are super underrated and deserve more attention! People should spend more time getting to know cats and appreciate their loyalty and affection. Cats can be very demanding, playful and affectionate, they just show it differently than dogs. In the end, cats and dogs are both great pets and provide so much love and companionship. So give those kitties a hug!

I wouldn't say they're under-rated. I think people either like cats or they don't. Cats are affectionate and relatively low maintenance but they won't drag you ass out of a burning building.
