Why are Saturday and Sunday the WEEKEND when Sunday STARTS the WEEK?

If you look on a typical calendar, each week starts on Sunday, so why are Saturday-Sunday called the weekend?

technically the sabbath day is on Saturday and you aren't supposed to work. Sunday is meant for communion and thus implies works are started on Sunday. This means that Saturday is the technical End of the Week. and this is why Sunday is counted as the start of the week in gregorian calendars. as for why both Saturday and Sunday are lumped in as the Week End together that has to do with work culture being a Monday - Friday occurance in the modern world as many people despite not being religiously accustomed to sabbath honoring are "off work" on the sabbath day. although not in the sense that they should be as biblically even writing 2 words in succession is considered "work"

You can get proper calendars that get it right and start with Monday.

I wonder if it's a religious thing to put Sunday first.

I always considered Monday the start of the week. Calendars are wrong in my eyes

It's because the people that make up the calender didn't have any schooling. Monday is always the beginning of the week
