Why are a lot of people on social media so shallow?

All they talk about is looks, looks, looks and post thousands of pics of themselves daily, or post about materialistic stuff such as fashion, makeup etc. They live huge parts of their lives pursuing gratification through pixels. Many people on social media seem so selfish, unempathetic and narrow-minded

Usually thats how they generste clicks and money, and you can easily fake appearance.

Faking something else like a talent or having posting a deep thought is either impossible or too long and doesn't get as much attention as a showing off your body.

They want to be validated and accepted socially. Reason why they created the term "FOMO" fear of missing out.
They confidence and emotional stability depends on validation.

Because for the longest time, media told people how we should and shouldn't look. If you're an average person like me not born with good genes, you're treated like shit.
