If someone walked up to you with a camera & asked you to rate your looks based on a scale of 1-10, what would you say?

I'd go the safe route & say 5/10. If anything, I'm only slightly above average looking but I'd prefer to rate myself lower on camera so people don't go after me too much in the comments. 🤣

I'm humble enough to know there's nothing really stellar about me that stands out: I'm not ugly, but I'm not attractive either. I'm me, and yes I'm okay with that.

Oddly enough, I look worse, not better, in pictures! I take terrible pictures- to the point I've literally had people tell me I look better in person than when I take a picture (...). And apparently when I'm really looking rough, I've been told I look like a guy, lol. Pretty sure that's a backhanded compliment, but I've heard worse, lol

It’s probably bc of the make up. people will assume under the make up a person is less attractive even if you look basically the same.

There's no winning. If you rate too high you're self absorbed. Too low you have low self esteem. And average you're playing it too safe.

Ratings are subjective, I've been a 10 in the eyes of many and a 3 in the eyes of others neither represents my true value

I think that trying to categorize looks in general will never have 100% accuracy since subjectivity will always be involved (cultural, societal, and personal preferences). It will never be absolute. However, I still believe that a general scale can be created since there's an objective way of measuring looks. Certain patterns keep appearing. Based on scientific studies, people who are more attractive tend to have these certain characteristics in common, (included but not limited to):

- Facial Averageness
- Sexual Dimorphism
- Facial Proportion
- Strong Dentofacial Growth/High Facial Robusticity
- Symmetry
- Youthfuness

A looks scale can be valuable in research and studies, psychological understanding, the fashion and beauty industry, dating and relationships, medicine and plastic surgery, educational tools, social awareness, self-improvement, legal and ethical considerations, and personal awareness.
