Well, rethink that.

Researchers have discovered that there is a slight edge to the coin coming up the same way the coin was when it was tossed.

I can't argue with that, because it's the same with a roulette table. Imperfections cause the marble to favor certain spots on the wheel.

But you might find this interesting: I had a brilliant idea. Just wait until the roulette table chose red 10 times in a row, and then vote on black. Nope. I lost my arse. I went home and researched it, and random things don't have a memory. Every toss of a coin or spin of the wheel, is a new moment in time. These objects don't care about what happened two minutes ago.

But on another note, I would love to assemble a team like in the movie "21"

I'm a player (at black jack) and you're a closer. Card counting is not difficult, but you need a partner to make it work. So I pretend to be a typical ditsy player and bet one dollar. But I'm counting cards. Once the count reaches an optimal range, I put my hands behind my back. then Tom moves in for the kill. You sit down and act a bit drunk. I then say: "This drink is too sweet." You now know that the card count is +16.

Now you start throwing down the heavy bucks, and win. We all go home rich!

I took a course called Discrete Mathematics in grad school. It was all about how to calculate odds. You are right. You can toss a hundred straight heads in a coin toss and the next toss will still be 50/50/. I learned how to calculate lottery odds and how to use a matrix to predict the weather.

Yes I found that out as child. When you flick a coin the number of times it spins depends on how hard you flick and most people don't flick hard enough to really spin it. I reckon it's about 70-30

Of course it's not random; "random" doesn't exist. Calculate all the forces acting on the coin, their positions and angles, and you'll know exactly how (and where, for that matter) it's going to land. "Random" just means "we don't know".
