How do you handle unfair bills?

A woman decided to give herself a big treat for her 70th birthday by staying overnight in a really nice hotel. When she checked out the next morning, the desk clerk handed her a bill for $250.00. ⁪ She demanded to know why the charge was so high "I agree it's a nice hotel, but the rooms aren't worth $250.00 for just an overnight stay - I didn't even have breakfast!" ⁪ The clerk told her that $250.00 was the 'standard rate,' and breakfast had been included had she wanted it. ⁪
She insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appeared and forewarned by the desk clerk, announced: "This hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference center which are available for use." ⁪ "But I didn't use them." ⁪ 'Well, they are here, and you could have." He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the in-hotel shows for which they were so famous. "We have the best entertainers from the world over performing here." ⁪ "But I didn't go to any of those shows." ⁪ "Well, we have them, and you could have." ⁪ No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, she replied, "But I didn't use it!" and the Manager countered with his standard response. ⁪ After several minutes' discussion, and with the Manager still unmoved, she decided to pay, wrote a check and gave it to him. The Manager was surprised when he looked at the check. ⁪ "But Madam, this check is for only $50.00" ⁪ "That's correct I charged you $200.00 for sleeping with me." ⁪ "But I didn't!" ⁪ "Well, too bad, I was here, and you could have."

How do you handle an unfair bill? Well if you're my dad it's the reason we can never go back to Lonoke, Arkansas....

On a family vacation, he very publicly had it out with the manager of this hotel we happened to stop in for the night on a road trip in front of everyone eating their continental breakfasts. He then screamed in fury that because of their BS bill, he and his entire family would NEVER COME BACK TO LONOKE AGAIN BECAUSE HE'D BEEN SWINDELED!!! He did eventually throw his credit card at them, paid, then stormed out screaming for us to get in the car and leave the damn croissants behind!

About an hour down the road when he was finally able to speak again outside of angry rage tongue, I pointed out that Lonoke is such a small crap town that literally no one comes back to it, so his threat was essentially meaningless.

I was then not allowed to speak until the next rest stop, LOL!

The old woman is a fucking Karen, but the way she used the manager's logic against him is choice.

But the thing is, this is fake as fuck. For a hotel "known for in-hotel shows" to accept a walk in without payment up front is absolutely not the norm.

Hell most cheap airport hotels won't accept cheque or cash nowadays. You have to give your credit card up front, so they have it on file for charges if you rack any up.

I don't see what's unfair. Businesses sets their own prices and make them known. You just want to stay a night outside your home perhaps chose a different hotel. It's hardly fair that customers set prices for businesses when they do, in fact, got facilities that burdens their business financially. The chefs will want pay, the pool requires heating and tending to etc etc.

These expenses are ultimately paid for by customers or the business lose money by setting "fair prices"

So to answere the question, I would never buy or use something I thought was more pricey than the value I'd get out of it. It's one of the reasons I make sure I know the price before buying anything, ever.

I think it's partially a generational thing, ultimately whatever seems fair to you or at bare-minimum something you can live with and are not getting run over with, however I was raised and live accordingly that whatever I have is just as much hers as mine if we are at the point where we have bills together.
If you wouldn't share any and all of what you have with your partner and you are sharing bills together perhaps you have let a relationship with the wrong person get too far... I would at least consider it, you may just miss out on your dream guy over it...

When you check into a hotel, that's the time you learn the price, not when you checkout.

To answer the question, if you believe you are being unfairly charged... say you were quoted $150 a night and the hotel charged you $250 ... you first calmly speak with the manager. If that doesn't resolve it, you escalate by calling corporate headquarters.

It's always a good idea to pay for hotel rooms with a credit card. If nothing else works, you can contact the credit card company and challenge the cost. Most credit cards will be glad to help with that... they want to keep you as a customer.

i tried to return a tire the other day at this store i bought it at. they said they don't return tires. i asked why? because they are a high theft item he said. that's when i lost it. i got my refund but i made sure they'll never want to see me again. i'm just not a person you want to fuck with.

That's one way to dispute a bill, but in the end did they accept the check for full payment.

I'm sure she was told what the cost of the room was when she made her reservation.

I usually talk to a manager or supervisor when I get an unfair bill. Sometimes I get it reduced to the correct amount and other times the bill is accurate.

That is pretty funny but I doubt it will get her off the hook. Anytime i make reservations at a hotel I always ask how much first. Most of the time I can beat them up a little on the price.

Sometimes when I think a bill is unfair I do complain. Sometimes I can get it adjusted but most of the time I tell them I will pay it but you will never see me again.

What do you mean unfair bills? I feel like this if your ass went out there and you created that. Bill your responsibility to pay the damn thing if you went out to a bank, got a credit card. It's your responsibility to pay back the goddamn loan, not go file bankruptcy and all this and that those people gave you that money in good faith. They trusted you pay the damn thing back. Be responsible, that's just my opinion and I'll live my life. I pay back what I owe. What do I know?

Tbh at that point it's her own fault for not checking the charge of a luxury hotel ahead of time. The hotel is doing their job, a lot of times they don't control the prices of their rooms and they can't change them for someone who's ignorant of the cost when they make the reservation.

there is nothing unfair. she CHOSE to stay at a hotel. the bill she gets is the bill she gets. if there were charges on the bill that she was not responsible for or were hidden fees or something i could see calling this unfair but she just got a standard bill for the room. the fault is on her not asking the price of the room up front.

that's a good story, but it would be her fault for not checking to see what the room rate it to begin with, and probably all of the hotels/motels that I have stayed in will tell you the rate before you finish the transaction at the beginning.
There is nothing "unfair" about that at all.

$250 is a pretty low rate even for ordinary hotels. "nice" hotels can go into the thousands per night. the Maui Fairmont starts at $1,500 and goes to $5,000 off-season

I usually just address the issue, lol. My friend and I stayed at a hotel. Afterwards I noticed they charged me for dinner when we had already paid. They apologized and took it off. 💁‍♀️

Make sure you know the total for the hotel before going in. If you book it online, It's cheaper and you know what o you get. Added things of any sort you use, Will be added after your stay of sleeping there.
