depends where i live and how much i drive. if i live in a congested area with a thousand lights probably an automatic.

I prefer stick. But I am getting lazy in my older years!

Automatic, no question. Stick shifts have only three real advantages:

1. they're slightly more fuel-efficient.

2. they're somewhat easier to repair.

3. they provide a convenient excuse for not lending out your car- "oh, you need to borrow a car? Well, can you drive stick? No? Sorry; I can't help you".

Stick shift always except once. A girl cannot really say she knows how to drive unless she knows how to drive a stick shift car.
What if there is an accident somewhere and you need to know how to drive a stick shift to save their life?;Or something like that anyway.

I wouldn't like driving an automatic in the snow. No way.

automatic is more practical. easier.

stick shift is more fun for sure.

i've owned both. being an adult with children a stick shift isn't very practical or even generally available in cars designed for families

Rear drive with mechanical linkage shifters, OK. Like old Corvettes. Paddle shifters take the fun out of it. FWD with automatics with select shifter positions OK. Basic "it decides automatics not so much. They can't read my mind. Some "learn" but not well.

I vastly prefer stick, but it can be hard to buy newer vehicles in stick because the American market is obsessed with automatic transmissions.
