Could you drive this Manual Transmission AKA Stick Shift?

Well I have driven 26 speed hydraulic clutches... but it was all in a linear pattern. Given that its a piece of Farm Equipment I would assume that it operates in specific gear ranges depending on what you are doing with it. So it is not like you will ever go from Neutral to one all the way back down to 20 without skipping a lot of gears along the way. I would also assume it is slow moving piece of equipment with a lot of torque and gear ratio's are very close together.
So yes I think if I understand the purpose of the piece of equipment that I could run it, knowing damn well I would only use 5 or 6 gears for any given task. But I would have to have compete understanding of the equipment and it capabilities and what I required it to do.
Okay here is what I learned from it today.
You put it in a gear and leave it there. If you need to change gears. You stop completely, then select your near gear.
This transmission has no synchronized rings.
And yeah, don't trust these people that say they drive 18 wheelers and therefore they think they can drive anything. I was once a a trucker myself and I have known a lot of really bad ones that had no idea what the capabilities of a truck was. A lot of them over drive them if you know what I mean.
I’ve driven big rigs with 15 and 18spds, but WTF is that thing? Holy shit
It's some crawler looking thing with tracks, it doesn't have wheels. For reverse you put the main shifter in neutral and pull the second level for reverse. It has 3 speeds for reverse low med and high
I cannot. Something about manual is a bit difficult for me.
Having to press the clutch while shifting into gear and also pressing the accelerator or brake is like doing math… (I don’t understand it, and my brain feels like scrambled eggs even trying to do it).
Yes I sure can. My father taught me to drive in his old Ford. 3 on the tree. I am licensed to drive pretty much any thing on the road. The truck I drive at work has an 18 speed.
Nice. 😎 I have so much yet to learn.
Well smarty pants this is not meant to be on roads. My best guess is that it was used in logging
@exitseven okay then
@exitseven See Now I'm not Hot no more, maybe If I had these, you night change your mind
@exitseven I wish I could upvote this. LMAO

I can drive stick, no problem, but I feel like getting from 4th to 5th with that clusterfuck would take a few tries.

I would need three ~memory palaces~ to handle that one... but sure, we could give it a try
I will tell it's freaking hard
I think it would fun... trying to find out what all they even do, have you not tried them all? lol
It dies, I surprised the thing started. In the 15 years I have been here. This piece of machine was never ran. I think I am the first to get it running in over 30 years
On a shift pattern that doesn't look like spaghetti I would get to know the rpm ranges of each gear and be able to shift without using the clutch but for something like this, I think you'd have to use the clutch in many instances. Although I did know a guy who had a car with no 1st or reverse and somehow could park it in packed parking lots as-if there were no issues at all. Ha.
I don’t think I would want to, I doubt you would really have to use all of them very often unless you took it on the road
It's some crawler looking thing with tracks, it doesn't have wheels
Oh so it’s just for power, I would just shift it without the clutch after first gear, too much double clutching needed for those old transmissions and too many gears
It might take some learning but yes, I could drive it. In college, I interned at the local electric company, and they taught me how to split shift a line truck's 10 gears.
I know how to drive manual since my brother taught me but I hate it. That picture is stressful
Manual must be a guy thing. I hate automatic transmissions with a passion.
It is I love automatic :)
That's not a real shift pattern - it's a long-running joke.
Now, you want to see a REAL, actual transmission that's no joke to drive?
Holy popsicles.. just #4 🤣
Sure. I’d figure it out. Might need to double up on chewing gum, so I don’t bite my tongue in concentration.
Is this a double punch of the clutch too?
Yes it is
Perfect.
I have to follow you. I want to be nosy.
I can drive manual, because that’s pretty standard in the UK, but what is this it looks so complicated
It is complicated, It is the hardest stick shift I ever tried
I can see how you would not get past 5th gear. I thought my son's 6 speed Jeep was hard.
Erm... not unless I skip a few gears. Sometimes I'll start in 2nd and skip gears if they're too slow or so close together that it's hardly noticeable.
I drive a 6 gear manual car on daily basis. So driving a manual vehicle is not an issue but I am confused how the gear will be engaged properly, for example see 3rd to 4 th. It gets cumbersome for the notch.
The gear are too far away for smooth operation.
This is a very old and complicated. Is this like a modern hi and low truck transmission?
Hahaaa... nope, and I love manual.
looks pretty cool though
Do bears poop in the woods?
No they poop in Joe Biden's car
Of course, I can.
I'll just use one gear only :D
I can drive stick no problem, but this one would take some getting used to that's for sure.
I only tried today. I just got the machine running this morning. Surprised it started. May not have ran in 30 years
Hell yeah man glad to hear it's running.
Yes, my very first car was a stick shift and I've had several more. But my last couple have been automatic because I'm lazy.
in germany, automatic transmissions are rare xD most people drive stick and everyone "can" drive it.
I would have to be trained on it
Hell, I have been trying, that thing is hard. It's all muscle memory. You have to shift fast, 1st gear is like 1 mph super slow
that how we learned how to drive 3 speed automatics were options
Could I start on a hill?
It's some crawler looking thing with tracks, it doesn't have wheels. For reverse you put the main shifter in neutral and pull the second level for reverse. It has 3 speeds for reverse low med and high.
I'm still nor sure what this machine is made for. But if I had to guess it was used for logging
Wtf is this shit? Ill stick with a motorcycle.
Nah thats not for me lol i can't
not that one
just a 5 speed
Sure can learn on that first
