I can, but I absolutely hate it. I’m a “cruise control at the exact speed limit” driver, I get any rise out of driving, like I’m not racing or trying to weave around and advance my position…. I fall into my place in line and get from A to B. I find the people who like manual a lot are the stunt driving type, and they get a boner off the 0-to-60 and look at highway driving like it’s the Daytona 500, and that’s fine, but I just couldn’t be any less into that, personally. I drive like a grandma, because I’m blazon’ weed pretty much 100% of the time, and interaction with police is absolutely out of the question, lmfao. Crazy you can get a DUI for that, I’ve literally probably driven a million miles stoned, and I don’t know anyone who hasn’t thought I was an excellent driver. Whatever, the government is dumb, par for the course.
But yeah…I like my hands free when I drive. I drive with my knees a lot of the time, not even using my hands for other shit, it’s just what’s comfortable for me. Obviously wide turns require a hand or two, but most things, my knees are my hands. So with that, I can’t have to be thinking about a foot on a clutch, I can’t have to be thinking about a gear shift, I can’t have to be THINKING, period. Driving is very unconscious and automatic for me. I might be better at it than anything else I can do in life. But it’s brainless, as far as the manual stuff. My mind is occupied with watching my surroundings and being ready to respond to what other drivers, who I have FAR less confidence in, might do that’s dangerous for me. I’m good, I’m watching what YOU do, you’re the wild card that might create danger, not me😂 So the last thing I need to worry about is what gear I’m in. I know, I know…”it becomes second nature”…. but it never did for me, even after regularly driving a manual. I can do it just fine, I just don’t like having one more thing to be aware of, thinking if the engine is struggling or not, etc. And I just can’t ever get used to downshifting at stoplights…. I just simply don’t have the presence of mind needed for any of it😂

I used to drive semis trucks, and farm equipment growing up, so I have driven lots of different transmissions.
4, 5, 6 speed, 5 and 2 which is a 5 speed trans with a 2 speed rear end, 4x4 which is a 4 speed main transmission with a 4 speed auxiliary transmission, so it had 2 sticks, later modules had an air shifter on the stick that shifted the auxiliary transmission, 8 speed where you could split low and reverse, 10 speed, like a standard 5 speed but when you get to 5th pull up an air shifter and go back and start all over again, so 1st gear now becomes 6th, a 13 speed, a Mack triplex, even can drive an automatic trans.
I have only ever had one automatic, and I hated it. Manual's for me, always.
I drove only manual... the automat is hell for me :D

Yes, i had manuals for a long time. Now they don't make them anymore in a SUV or a pickup truck.
My uncle taught me how to drive a stick in his VW bug when I was 15. I had a couple cars with automatics from the time I was 16. But I bought a souped up '72 El Camino with a Hearst shifter in my early 20s. I was Johnny Race in that car. LOL
Two of mine are automatic. One is a 5-speed. I have had several Manuals from Three on the Tree to 5-speed. I don't like 5-speeds on FWD cars as much because often the cable system is rubbery. I've driven old school V8's with solid linkage shifters and they are lots of fun.
yes, started there. It's fun. The new automatic transmissions are more efficient, so advantage of stick is gone. only for racing.
The vast majority of learner drivers learn to drive a manual first and most first cars are a manual, as they tend to be smaller cars.
Conceptually, I can. My dad mom and sister all drive manual transmissions and I learned on both a manual and an automatic, but having not gotten behind the wheel since before COVID-19, I am not even sure I can drive at all anymore.
I have the knowledge on how to do it but never have so if I could, it's not like a rally driver lmao
Yeah. When I first learned how to drive it was on a manual B6 A4. Two birds with one stone
I had a 1978 VW Scirocco with a 4-speed on the floor which I drove from 1978 to 1989.
Agreed, this is a basic skill that has been lost.
In a street with barley no cars then yes, otherwise no.
Yes, I drove a stick shift for many years. Changed to an automatic car when none of my kids could master the stick.
I prefer manual transmissions. I've only owned one car that wasn't manual trans.
I can but manual cars are still very popular in Poland
Yeah both vehicles are stick. Owned more manuals than auto
That's all I drive, so yes. Most people in UK drive a manual. I guess we just like changing gears.
That is All I USE. lolxxoo
I LEARNED HOW WHEN I WAS IN TRUCK DRIVING SCHOOL BUT I DON'T REMEMBER ANYMORE
