Is it mandatory to know how to drive with manual transmission where you live?

When I was taking driving lessons I had to learn how to drive stick.

No, in the US, the vast majority of cars are automatics. When I was a new driver in the mid/late 80s, there were still lots of more entry-level cars that were manuals - cars like Civics, Corollas, and Sentras - and there were sporty cars with manuals, but even then, most mainstream cars were autos. Today, you have to go out of your way to get a manual, and in many cars, even more entry-level cars or sportscars, they aren't even available. Instead, you have dual-clutch transmissions with paddles or levers for changing the gears manually, but there's no clutch pedal.

Even heavy equipment has largely gone auto, though there's still plenty of older gear with manuals, and of course, motorcycles are still mostly manual, though some autos do exist.

No; we've moved past the 70's here. For a commercial license, though, it's a requirement. Well, class A anyway; not C, and I'm not sure about B.

No. You can make your a license if your legs are handicapped on automatic transmission car but you can't drive manual shifting car with such licenses.

Not mandatory, but its the majority of cars which have manual transmission.

You have to decide when getting your drivers license if you want automatic only or the basic one which allows you to drive both.

It's not mandatory in New Zealand, where 99% of cars are automatic - but if you get your license based on automatic cars, you aren't allowed to drive stick-shift vehicles !

No, it is not mandatory. I taught my oldest how to drive stick but by the time the other two were old enough I did not have a truck with a stick. As far as I know they still do not know how.

No it's not mandatory. You can take the road test in automatic or manual shift cars
