1 yI can. On the column, on the floor. I LOVE to drive, so I love a stick shift. I can even parallel park a stick in San Francisco, on a steep hill, going backwards up hill.

@elaphe Thank you. After my first driving lesson at 15, which involved a tow truck , I rapidly improved!

@joselyn002 The only way to learn is to sit in the driver's seat and have an experienced driver take you through the motions.

You can teach me if you are ready to, message me privately

Only if you are in northeast Florida, and then i will first need to discuss it with my wife.

1 yI've owned several stick shifts, but it's been a while. I think the last one I owned was a 280Z in the early 90s. I have driven several since then, most recently about a month ago.
I've also driven a double clutch. Those are older transmissions that don't have a synchronizer to sync the engine speed with the transmission speed. You clutch once to pull it out of gear into neutral. Then wait for the engine to slow down to the proper speed, or hit the gas to speed the engine up (depending on whether you are accelerating or decelerating). When the engine is at the right speed you clutch again and shift. It's not as bad as it sounds, but if you're driving in mountains it can become tedious.
10 Reply 2.8K opinions shared on Other topic. Yep. An uncle taught my in his VW but when I was 16.
I have owned stick shift cars before.
I even drove stick shift cars when vacationing in Europe, including in the UK and Irish Republic, where you have to shift with your left hand.10 Reply- 1.9K opinions shared on Other topic.
1 yBarely. If I needed to drive someplace and all I had was a stick shift, I'd have no problem except I might stall out on a steep hill. Lol
But I've been keeping my eye out for a shitbix to learn on. I want to be able to do it because if car people watch me drive fast or drift or do anything cool, as soon as they ask if I can drive stick I'm like
10 Reply 693 opinions shared on Other topic. I'm old enough that here in the UK you learned to drive a manual from the first lesson as automatics were very rare beasts and cost a lot more than their manual equivalent, and even today if you pass your driving test in an automatic and later want to drive a manual you will have to resit you driving test, but not the other way round.

1 yYes since I was 16 years old, learned on the first car I got from my dad that wasn’t worth selling, a 1976 Datsun 710 with a 4 speed manual, also learned on a 5 speed motorcycle then a 10 speed GMC tractor trailer. I drive tractor trailers for a living now
10 Reply 904 opinions shared on Other topic. I was born on a farm. Was doing the tractor work at age twelve. Have a commercial driver license for stick shift trucks. Have driven bull dozers and locomotives. Plus many other pieces of equipment. Getting ready to build a Cobra Kit Car. Probably with a 4 or 5 speed.
10 ReplyI learned how to drive on a stick and that's all I've had since. I drive a very low 2 seater sports car with a 6 speed manual, and I love seeing guys reaction when I get out in my miniskirt and stilettos, and it's even more funny when they ride with me, most of the guys I know can't even drive a stick, lol.

1 yI can! It was the first thing my dad taught me when I got my learners permit. I cannot say I’m the greatest at it and it’s definitely been years since I’ve driven 6 gears. Maybe it’ll be something to look forward to next summer.
10 Reply 1.5K opinions shared on Other topic. yeppers, no issues at all.
I started driving tractors on my grandfather's farm.
He still had an older one with a hand clutch.
I've operated heavy equipment, drove trucks with a wide variety of transmissions, twin stick 16 speed, Mack Triplex, 13, 10, 8, 5 & 2 speed, and 2 of my cars have sticks and of course my motorcycles all use a clutch.
It is something you learn over time.00 Reply- 2.3K opinions shared on Other topic.
1 yStarted out driving stick. My last vaca rented a stick in Europe.
Saves gas, fun to drive. A little scary going deep down into the European parking lots underground... and back up.

1 yNo The only time I did, I was helping a friend of mine drive 8 hours away to Indianapolis and she needed to take a break so, I drove and she shifted for me until we got going and I didn't need to shift anymore.

1 yNever could drive stick. It was so bad that when I worked security and had to do valet, I'd have the car's owner drive the car as I rode shotgun.
10 Reply3.1K opinions shared on Other topic. Yes, and I can do a high performance (heel-and-toe) downshift going into a corner on track.
20 Reply744 opinions shared on Other topic. Manual transmission , Yes of course , and I would hope everyone can , if not we have a big problem , its certainly a required skill.
10 Reply12.8K opinions shared on Other topic. Yes, I drove stick for many years. All of a sudden they do not make many vehicles with standard transmissions. I always wondered who would want an SUV or pickup truck with an automatic transmission?

1 yYeah I started out with a manual car. Then when I tried automatic for the first time, It really felt like I just switched to easy mode.
10 Reply I used to be able to. But I haven't done it for 20 years, so I am certainly rusty. I suppose that I could drive a stick shift in an emergency.

Typically, the clutch lever is on the left handle, the shift pedal can either be on the left hand foot rest or right side.
In my experience they’re on the left side.
When shifting, squeeze the clutch lever in, shift to the desired gear, when there slowly release the lever while giving gas simultaneously. It should be smooth, if the motorcycle jolts or stalls you didn’t do it right
Nope. I haven't even seen a stick shift in person.
