Is it condescending if someone called you hun?

Much of that is colloquial culture, and somewhat age related. In much of the southern USA, especially among older people, you'll hear them calling each other darlin', hun, honey, sweetie, sugar, sweetheart, etc, as part of a greeting. It's not just men either. If I go into a restaurant and have an older woman serving me, she's just as likely to say " Hey darlin', how you doing today, what can I get you", as she is to omit the darlin' part. A younger woman may or may not do that.

If I know a woman personally, or know a server from being a regular customer, it's almost guaranteed she'll say something like that, and so will I. When you're there, it's just how people talk. When I go north, women don't like it much, but if you're CLEARLY Southern and say it fast enough and with the right twang, they think it's cute. LOL

Funny that when a guy calls a woman "babe" or "hun" ( or "love" as in the UK), sometimes they mind. When a woman calls a man that, men love it. Hmmm.

Nope. It’s a term of endearment. My dad used to talk like that all the time. He wasn’t being disrespectful. Not one bit. Now if the tone is condescending then that’s a different story but most people just have a way they talk. I used to call men and women baby when I was younger. It was just my slang with friends

It depends on who it is. If it's @roseysarah it's warm and supporting. If it's some random guy... I wouldn't like it. If it's my friend, who knows me well, it's nice. If my partner, it's cheesy.

It depends on the local society. I was called "me lover", as a child in the south west, and "chuck" in the midlands (they'd have called you "petal", there).

usually no, like often its well meaning older people who are just talking to you like that cos your young i only find it disrespectful if someone is using with the intention to be condescending towards me

I think it depends on how they use it and what tone they use. My girlfriend called me honey sometimes to be sweet. It just depends. If you don't know the person if might come across differently. Knowing the person can also judge how they use the word honey.

A lot depends on where they are from.
Many of those are used down south as a term of endearment.
