I’m a big believer in what goes around comes around. I’ve seen that happen in my life and in the lives of others so many times. It may take years. But, eventually your good deeds or bad deeds come back around to help you or harm you.


If you want a psychological/scientific explanation, it’s simply the law of reciprocity at work. We tend to mirror back behavior that we receive from others. If we are insulted, it’s natural to feel an urge to insult back. If we are given gifts, it’s natural to feel an urge to give back.


That can then further develop into social reputation and status which can help or harm us. Like a business that becomes known for scamming others. They will lose business. Or a business known for amazing customer service and over-delivering. They will gain business.


Is there some cosmic element to this as well? Maybe. Perhaps. But, whether or not there is, we can still confirm that there is a psychological and sociological basis for supporting the concept of what goes around comes around.

Regardless of one’s religious affiliations, I think there’s a lot of wisdom in Jesus’s teaching of, “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.”

I think attitude has a lot to do with it. When going through a tough time I decided to just be thankful for everything instead of bitter about my misfortunes and troubles. Honestly, once I decided to be grateful for everything, including hardships (training opportunities) my life just got better.

I honestly don't really think that there's like a string of good luck or anything. If I do make the right decisions I've found out it works out because of that, I made the right decisions.

In general yes it can feel that way. That also gives me a smile when it does go my way for doing something right in the world. Whether it is doing a good deed for a neighbor or my parents or doing right by a friend. If "the world" pays me back in some way or it feels like it I am always happy. It is something that makes me want to do more for others when that happens.

I don’t expect to be rewarded for “doing something good”. I’ll probably never know if I made the “right choice”. Actually, I don’t really care to know! It was MY choice, so it has to be right. Thing’s always go your way, if you stay positive, right? Like my dad always says, “Things are looking good today! I woke up”.

Sometimes it just feels as if you make a couple of right decisions, and other non-connected occurrences, which happened to be very pleasant, start happening. It's kind of like the feeling from Dr. Seuss book "oh the places you'll go".

This is going to sound like a total suck up given what you just said, but I swear it's true - I already had very positive associations with your username. I don't remember what, exactly, I've read yesterday, but often in my mind I get these 'thumb's up' or 'thumb's down' associations (helps me to decide who's qs to interact on, etc.), and I was already like, 'yep, this guy's a good guy' lol. (I swear I'm not a suck up lol. I'm just expressive when I do like something or someone.)
And, yes, good judgment seems, for whatever reasons, lacking these days. I often call it critical thinking. Groupthink. Bad. Too bad. We need more people able to think for themselves, and willing to put in the time and thought to not be dismissive and go for the low-hanging fruit, cancel culture, all that. I'm going on a tangent here...
Anyway, thanks, and good for you. Self-control, spread love not war, all that...
