Can Animals like dogs forecast their own deaths?

My mom says that in the olden days when most of China was rural and farm lands, family dogs that knew they were going to die would hide in a distant corner outside of the home so that their corpse would not be a burden for their host family to clean up after their death. I was told by a friend that big feline like the tiger also know when they will die and will pick a spot to rest their dead bodies when their death is about to arrive. Humans are unique in that the majority do not know their death date, unless they have an illness or some crises they know is difficult to surmount.

Yes - cats e. g. sometimes are looking for a quite place to die alone. other animals also do that... Dogs? I don't know...

i think most neuroscientists find animals to be more stupid than they are. they would say that most animals don't understand death. i find that false unless that animal has never experienced a death in their life.

so if your domestic animal knew they were sick they wouldn't go hide. they'd come to you to make them feel better. unless you never listened to your pet and never took it to the vet and were a horrible human being.

No it's not like about not caring I have seen these things happen i don't know what runs in their mind at that time.

But I have seen it multiple times with different families of pet owners

You read or hear about so many pets that were in ill health that just go hide someplace and pass away.

many of them do keep away from their groups... when they're about to die...

instinctively, to prevent illness or attract predators
