Why is the life expectancy for autism low?

I think that depends on the severity of the autism and if there are any other underlying health conditions. Autism itself doesn't shorten lifespan. What does is the other health conditions that are common with severe autism. Also the fact that sometimes autistic people are prone to accidents and sometimes don't have a well developed sense for danger and dangerous situations.

Usually autism itself does not affect life expectancy, however research has shown that the mortality risk among individuals with autism is twice as high as the general population, in large part due to drowning and other accidents.

It depends on the level. Lower the level, longer avg. Proper treatment and therapy make it better to the point of people without autism
