Im not familiar on how the United States Postal Service (USPS) rules work regarding receiving parcelss, documents, packages, etc as I live in another country.
I mailed something to the US like 10 days ago through a courier (similar to DHL or UPS) the one I used was still courier but another company. As couriers are faster even if you pay more than regular mail but the benefit is that with a courier you can track your correspondence since it leaves your country all the way to the arrival of the package to the recipient.
So I mailed mine and I had been tracking my correspondence, once my correspondence left my country the couriers companies changed of course and once in the US is in hands of different local couriers or local postal couriers.
I wrote the address correctly of the person it is addressed to, also wrote the phone number and name of the person who is receiving the correspondence. Anyway, everything was going great from the get go with the tracking until it reached the city where the parcel is going to be delivered. My parcel is going to a Beverly Hills company and it reached the US Beverly Hills postal office yesterday morning then the problem started here. While I checked online the tracking there was a notification which reads this:
"Held at Post Office, At Customer Request. Your item is being held at the BEVERLY HILLS, CA 90211 post office at 9:46 am on December 28, 2023. This is at the request of the customer"
Does anyone know what that means? Like I said im not familiar with USPS rules and policies regarding correspondence.
I mean could it be because the office it is on holidays and they are closed so they could not delivered anything so they took back the parcel and held it at their office until they open again? I know if there are other reasons too.
I doubt it was held due to customer request, because the person who is addressed the parcel, 3 weeks ago told me to send my package under her name and under the address
I mean of course there is no way to tell exactly when parcels arrive at a certain place and this lady had to wait for it it is uncertain the exact arrival time that differs a lot they always give an approx time of the arrival but not the exact exact. I know this because I worked at a front desk of a company some years ago.
I heard that notice the USPS gave me is something it happens often in the US and it that had to do with the postal officer being lazy and did nto scan the document corrrectly and left it in the truck but they deliver it days later probably but i dont know.

I can't tell you WHY (even though it says "customer request", that might not be true), but the recipient needs to go to the post office and request that mail/parcel. Perhaps she has to pay some duty, or at least be asked about it for whatever reason. Perhaps it got partially damaged during shipment and they need her to get involved. Whatever it is, she needs to go down and deal with it ASAP, because they'll otherwise eventually just return it to you.
according to what I know the recipient all the times receives different parcels from diffrente palces and in any of those she had had to go to the post office to pick up something for her. The USPS always deliver their correspondence right at her office. Mayeb she was in vacation?
The package probably requires a live signature and the recipient has not been able to be present at the time of delivery.
maybe he recipient was on vacation?
How long does the USPS can hold the parcel under this circumstance" held by customer request"
This is what it means "What It Means:
The package is being held at your local Post Office. This is due to a USPS Hold Mail® request, Hold for Pickup request or USPS Delivery Instructions® request. A redelivery cannot be scheduled for this package.
What You Can Do:
Packages held as part of a valid USPS Hold Mail® request will be handled according to the instructions in the request (carrier delivery or customer pickup).
If there is no USPS Hold Mail request for your address, you must pick up your package from your local Post Office™. Use Postal Locator to find your local Post Office. You must show valid photo ID. If you don't claim the package within the time limit, we will return it to the sender.
The odd thing is taht I never request to hold the parcel or the recipient aske to held the package?
It's unclear what specific information you're referring to regarding US Post Office rules. Could you please provide more context or clarify your question?
