This depends. If you're talking about an abusive or cheating situation, these kinds of people will not stop their bad behavior unless it damages THEM.

I mean, if they go to jail for spousal abuse, or their marriage (s) end because of cheating, it might finally dawn on them that THEY are doing something wrong.

Until they decide to get help and start on a plan to halt said behaviors, change from them is unlikely. My answer means if you give them more rope and believe their lies, they'll continue using you.

I don't think such people think anyone is worth respecting but themselves. They're narcissists and no one matters but themselves. You are not even a blip on their radar.

I would say yes , you invest in someone with your pure emotions they betray you and after sometimes they would come to you like nothing happend and again do same thing and people give them a chance.
