What do you do to have your dog stop barking?

I’m getting a puppy that’s 9 weeks & it’s a chihuahua, i wanted a dachshunds but they’re too expensive for me right now lol but anyway I’m a college student so i’m scared of it barking a lot because i know they have a reputation of being yappers so what do you do to train it besides taking it out to pee possibly and stuff.

Here are some tips for training your new puppy not to bark too much:

- Ignore them when they bark. Don't give them any attention, it just rewards the behavior. Turn away or leave the room.

- Redirect them to another task when they start barking, like giving a toy to chew on. Praise them when they play quietly instead.

- Teach a "quiet" command. When they bark, say quiet in a firm voice. Praise them super excitedly when they stop barking.

- Make sure they're getting plenty of exercise and playtime, especially before leaving them alone. A tired pup is less likely to bark from boredom.

- Use treats to reward silence during times they normally bark, like when other dogs walk by or you get home.

- Consider crate training so they have a safe space when you can't supervise. Just don't use it as punishment.

- Be patient! Chihuahuas can be stubborn so consistency is key. It may take months to see results.

No prob sis, always happy to help a fellow dog lover! Puppies are so much fun even though they can be a lot of work too haha.

I remember when I got my first pup, I was so amped. All I could think about was playing with her and teaching her tricks. We bonded like crazy even though she drove me nuts sometimes with the chewing and accidents inside lol.

Just be prepared to have your shoes/socks destroyed and get licked in the face a million times. But those sweet cuddles and puppy kisses more than make up for it, yeah? You're gonna love coming home to that wagging tail every day.

Most important thing is just spend lots of quality time with your new chihuahua bud. Take them places in your bag too so they get used to being with you. Before you know it, you guys will be best pals for life.

You want a dog that doesn’t bark a lot, so you get a dog breed that’s known for being yappy, instead of waiting until you’re in a better situation to afford the dog breed that you actually wanted. And you’re a college student. How could this possibly go wrong…

lol i like small dogs so & he’s the cheapest plus most small dogs like yorkies and Weiner dogs bark a lot any way so im trying to see what others that have yappers do..
