When your company hires someone new, do you ever go out of your way to have a conversation with them, give them your number, text them, etc?

I know one guy said that when he joined a TV show, his wife (who's an actress) dmed him, saying let me know, if you need anything, and he asked for her number, and they ended up talking for 3 hours, on the phone, and then he asked her out. I was offered a job, and the woman that interviewed me, texted me a couple times, before I was supposed to start, but I didn't go through with it
