I was living in supported housing when the staff spilt milk all over my laptop. Can I ask them for money?

Yes. Tell the owner you want to file for damages through their insurance company.

Give a factual (not emotional) detail about what happened. It's best it's typed and mailed. Attach a businesses repair costs estimate.

You'll need to pay for the evaluation yourself. And this process is probably going to take months waiting for a check. Unless lucky. If at all. Lots of going back snd forth. Insurance companies, without proof, will low ball you, too. It would have been good to take pictures.

Fluids on laptop mainboard need to be spilled with isopropanol or pure ethanol soon as possible to get rid of water, otherwise mainboard starts to corrode and after few days/weeks something burns through. CPU or GPU draw a lot of current, when some power distributing component isn't 100% good they get damaged and most laptops aren't worth to repair with damaged CPU or GPU. I learned that hard way.
Yes you should demand money, most companies who employ people have insurance for such cases.

Usually staff is insured by the employeer, and you will get money or replacement easily. Just don't wait too long.

Yes, and you can sue them for money if they say no, because it counts as them causing you property damage.
