+1 yI can tan, but itās a PROCESS, lmao. Iāve figured out that I need 45 minutes in the sun, ALMOST burning, and then cover up. THEN I get kind of a base tan, and I can manage it from there. But I can burn QUICK, lmao👻 Iām definitely an SPF 50 guy all the way. I wear sunblock on my face even in the winter, haha, but thatās more anti-aging than anti-burning. But once May rolls around, I have to really be careful😂

4.7K opinions shared on Other topic. The only time I've ever been burned is on the water or once when I was working on a building in a corner with two white walls and the sun baking down on me and reflecting off of the walls. Normally, I just tan.
Asker+1 ySo why the water do you like That? Water is a traitor lol
- +1 y
LOL. Water reflects the sun, so you get a lot more UV exposure. Which is not good for you, of course.
This is why I'm rarely outdoors without a hat: to minimize my head/face's overall exposure to the sun. The skin on your head and face is thin and more susceptible to cancer (melanoma). That's why we have hair on our head.
Asker+1 ySo that explains why my skin cried when I went to the pool years ago
8.3K opinions shared on Other topic. I mostly get red or I burn if I don't use a sunscreen. Sometimes that redness after a while leaves a very very light tan on me after a few days, but other times nothing happens.

+1 yHas nothing to do with skin tone just genetic luck. I tan quite dark naturally but I'm super pale normally
15 Reply
Asker+1 yDamn if my life depended on it I would've died, I could've sworn you got red š
- +1 y
I can but I wear sunscreen so I don't burn. But yeah if I have the time to lay out I get very tan
Asker+1 yHow dark can you tan and why don't you do it more often?
- +1 y
I don't have the time anymore to just lay out for hours š¤£
https://ibb.co/j4M85c5
Can't find anything recent so this is probably not the most tan I've been but all I can find quickly.
Asker+1 yHoly crap you do tan, my life is a lie, so much for my skin tone barrier theory, you should tan more tho, it looks good on you, I've never seen you tan before, it's kinda weird ha
+1 yI just get darker. But I noticed that my mom will get red and she's light skinned. So i'm guessing that skin pigmentation has something to do with why you either get a tan or a burn.
Asker+1 yBetter mix of genes I suppose
- +1 y
Yeah it really could be either genes like you said, skin pigmentation, or maybe a little of both lol
Asker+1 yIma go with both lol

Asker+1 yHow is that possible lol
- +1 y
Not sure. When I was traveling through Italy years ago I was thinking of hitchhiking part of the way but an Italian guy at a hostel advised against it because he said I was so dark people would think I was Sicilian and wouldn't give me a ride (apparently that is a prejudice in Northern Italy). I have been out in the sun every day walking all over.
Now I don't seem to tan hardly at all, my skin just gets irritated from too much sun.
1.3K opinions shared on Other topic. I usually tan. It really depends on what part is exposed. I am in minor sunlight almost daily. While I wear pants during the winter, I don't when it gets warmer. If you see the tan line left by my socks when I start to need pants, I get really tan.
