When I listen to something like Toad The Wet Sprocket, it definitely doesn't sound modern, but it doesn't quite sound like old people's music either, despite being about as old now as Elvis and Louie Armstrong were back then. In my mind, we've got at least 10 more years before 90's music is declared old people's music, so I guess the cutoff is about 40 years. What do you guys think?
As @Nikki1989 said music (or at least modern music) is never old, bands and solo artists from 1970’s onwards still sell a lot of music, sell out arenas.
the Stones are touring this year, as are Def Leopard, Duran Duran, Kiss, Elton John etc.
Then you have music on radio, there is always some 80’s music on and everything else gets covered.

I never use that category. I like nearly all music so, age hasn't much of anything to do with it.
As far as I know, TTWS only got started in the late `70's/early `80's! Louis and Elvis were both dead by then.
Classic music is never old. Do the research and many bands from the 60s and 70s are still outselling garbage that the media makes a big deal out of it these days. The RIAA keeps counting sales, but they never report on what old bands sell because it doesn't benefit the current music industry or what remains of it.
