Females supply the high-investment, low-quantity gametes (eggs) while Males supply the low-investment, high-quantity gametes (sperm).
"Man" in this case just refers to "Adult Male Human" while "Woman" refers to "Adult Female Human".

It isn't about the genitals, as those are a means to the above ends and can be changed by environmental factors.
It isn't necessarily about the chromosomes either, as those are also a means to ends, differ in functionality by species, and there are exceptional outliers.

So yeah... in the end it is about the gametes... or at least the functional use of the gametes.
