1 yYou don’t understand your country until you leave it. I mean REALLY leave it and live in a real environment in a different non 1st world country for at least a few months. I’ve done this sporadically over the years.
I remember driving back from Mexico a few years ago and waiting to cross the border to get home. It was a mix of emotions. I missed the new friends and experiences I made. I spent a few months down there.
But also felt a sense of relief that there would be less danger of me be able to walk down the street at night and not worry about being robbed, kidnapped or harassed or extorted by corrupt police officers. I was relieved that I didn’t have to worry about making one wrong turn in a bad neighborhood and being robbed/kidnapped. Also relieved I could drink out the faucet.
Overall it dawned on me that 95% of the bs I worry about when living in the USA really isn’t important. I’ve met people who have it far far harder then even some of the poorest people in the USA have after living in Thailand for 6 months
It’s still a great country despite its set backs and recent times. I do also have strong political opinions. But unlike some other people who ranting about Biden or Trump I’m not bringing it up on this particular opinion.
28 Reply- 1 y
THIS. Americans need only cross the border and live in Mexico a while (not just the touristy areas, but really get into the place), to realize that for all its faults, the USA is still a great place. And Mexico has actually IMPROVED in recent decades. Let that sink in.
- 1 y
@Curmudgeon yep. I was staying in nice upscale hotels the whole time either. When I was in Thailand (which was safer but poorer) I was right in a neighborhood staying a $80 a month “hotel” that was extremely basic. It was right in the middle of a poor neighborhood.
These entitled crybabies we got here sometimes drive me nuts. But ironically they want more policy that will eventually turn us INTO a third world country because they are too stupid to understand how economics work. - 1 y
* I wasn’t staying
- 1 y
They don’t know what it means to appreciate and value what they have in the US
Their victim mentally and entitled behavior is causing more damage to the current generation with these so call depression, anxiety, adhd, mental illness, pure crazy!!! That include kids!!
There is something wrong with these “people”.
I really do love America. I don’t have much hope about our future generations to comes - 1 y
@midnightmoon05 ironically what they want is slowly turning America into second rate country. But they are so brainwashed and deranged they just don’t get it.
But what’s even more insane is your seeing middle aged adults act this way. Just read with DrPepper12 is writing. He’s 51 and some the crap he posts is like a recently brainwashed leftist university freshman. Not all the time (he’s actually reasonable about other topics) but whenever the word “Trump” gets mentioned he goes nuts with TDS. - 1 y
😂 emotions are stronger than logic.
I hear the same… I walk away because they are just repeating vs. truly understand what’s going on to see things from a big picture. - 1 y
@midnightmoon05 well they tune out male criticism and logic. But sometimes they listen to other women.

2.8K opinions shared on Other topic. I like living in the USA. I believe in the principals manifested in the Declaration of Independence and cherish Bill of Rights protections.
Unfortunately, the Constitution and Bill of Rights have been greatly undermined over the years by greedy, power hungry connivers.
I love my home in rural California, even though the governor has been doing his best to destroy people's lives.
The U. S. is a wonderful place with all of its diversity and natural beauty. The government has been doing horrendous things ever since the Clinton administration. It has become a plutocracy. Kleptocracy, loss of privacy, and increasing authoritarianism are scary.
But I'll stick around and continue living my life while doing what I can to resist the evil plans of politicians, government agencies, corporations, wealthy sociopaths, Zionists and globalists.
I don't know anywhere else I would want to live permanently. Every country has its problems.
I do love Ireland, though. If I considered living anywhere else, that would be the place.25 Reply- 1 y
@Iron_Man. Up until I was 64 I was still doing all the spring weed eating on my property and walking up and down the hill with no problem. It takes a good 20 hours of hard labor to get it all done.
But now my legs aren't as strong as they used to be. They get tired more easily. Part of it is because I don't exercise them as much as I should. I got kind of lazy. But I don't have any trouble getting up and down or walking. And I still do a lot of work on the property. I'm luck to have been healthy all my life.
393 opinions shared on Other topic. Yes, and no. I wouldn’t be happier anywhere else and simply by changing location. I don’t like how things are done here all the time, but I have hope and have to hope they’ll change it. For the better. I don’t like by far how other countries get things done and who they have to trust in. It’s a 50/50. Other countries do good to ban unhealthy foods. And such. But I just wouldn’t trust in one person.
Then again maybe it would be better to overthrow one rotten egg, then one amidst a team of those egging each other on and manipulating.
Hopefully all is well, but this will always be home for me. I’d never want to lose or give up my citizen ship. Just couldn’t do it. All in all, this will always be home. 🏠 🌅
Lots of great things from individual states and love the nature and wildlife. It’s just irreplaceable.
10 ReplyMy dad and older brother are both US Navy SEALS, and I'm very proud of them and proud to be an American. That being said, I'm not at all happy with a good portion of our elected officials or the direction our country seems to be headed to. Hopefully we can right the ship before its too late.

I am so happy when I hear someone in your generation saying something like this. It gives me hope for America's future. I too love this country. My dad was a Navy doctor for the Navy UDT in World War II, the predecessor of the Navy SEALS. I'm also very proud of that.
Keep doing everything you can to preserve this country and the beautiful dream it was founded upon. If we all do this, the dream will never die.
Besides the rampant consequences of capitalism - I can manage. Now if I can find a country where there's no property taxes on the land or the housing and humans won't bother me with racism or any other nuisance - I will leave America faster than a pig in slop.

The government has brainwashed society that it's our responsibility to TIP because they are not paying certain industries liveable wage, so it's supposed to be our responsibility if our already double taxes income to pay others for serving us? It's a crime. I hate living here. Too expensive, dangerous and full of ignorance!!

1 yNo, but I can't think of a country I'd actually be happy in.
I'd love to start my own, it would be like a mix of the United States, Japan, England, Austraila, and Switzerland in terms of how its ran, but unfortunately all the good land is already occupied, and the odds of any nation's leader becoming besties with me and restructuring a nation under my advisement seems pretty low.
Its a shame, I have wonderful ideas to solve a lot of problems.10 Reply America is the best country in the world to live in. There aren't many countries in the world that are even desirable to visit for tourism at the moment.

116 Reply- 1 y
@DrPepper12 Really now? Trump, for all his faults, has made it pretty clear that he wants the USA to retrench, pull back, and focus on problems at home and is NOT eager to engage in more Clinton or Bush Dynasty style foreign adventures. That is the OPPOSITE of Empire.
- 1 y
Isolationism is the flip side of out past 75 years of adventurism. Talk to me when youve read project 2025. .
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 I HAVE. It's a refreshing pull back from the Bush Dynasty excesses. The adventurism didn't go well, and in a post-Cold War world, is just not justifiable anymore.
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 if Trump gets elected and you want to leave just let me know. I’ll help you pack.
Honestly man have you ever spent an extended amount of time in a NON first world country? I have. Both Mexico and Thailand. And these were for several months in non touristy areas. In the actual neighborhoods.
There were some things I really liked about those culture. People seemed more genuine. Food was good. No modern feminism bullsh*t (that i especially liked).
But there are A LOT of things I had to worry about. Like not getting kidnapped or extorted by corrupt cops. Not being able to walk down a street at night without heightened paranoia of danger. Not being able to drink out the water faucets.
I don’t know what they hell you people think is possible in the USA but we can’t magically mirror off Iceland (I’ve been there too by the way) onto a county of 330+ million people. Bernie Sanders is an utter moron. Sweden took in hordes of Muslim immigrants to the general public’s great dismay. Crime and rape skyrocketed. They regretted it. France is about elect its first conservative president in 50 years because far leftist policies are wrecking that country. People finally had enough.
But again if you want to leave if Trump gets elected by all means go. - 1 y
Who said a non-aligned nation in the cold war? That is what you meant right? No, i mean a democratic socialist state like Scandinavian nations, most European nations. A place where communitarian values hold sway and egalitarianism and laws against inherited wealth matter. Where laws are made and not paid.
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 and those Scandinavian countries don’t have Mexico on their southern border along with 330M+ people with very disrift backgrounds and cultures. Also countries like Denmark are NOT “socialist” countries. They are CAPITALIST countries with VERY HIGH TAXES. Maybe you like the latter but again they are NOT socialist countries.
I’ve been to Iceland. I really liked it. I could literally leave my wallet out on the street packed with over 100000 Krona overnight and most people are so honest there it would be returned to me by a complete stranger the next day with all the money intact.
But they are also a very HOMOGENOUS culture. It’s a lot easier to have a so called “socialist” government when everybody was raised in the same background and shares similar values. People keep each other in check with close knit communities.
But I also spoken to the native locals around there. And they are getting anxious if not outright pissed off and irate about migrants coming there (some illegal) who are taking advantage of the taxpayer system. Also some these migrants are bringing their bad habits with them (petty crimes, prostitution, etc). Yes Iceland is a very low violent crime country but it won’t stay that way forever if they open the floodgates to migrants who don’t share their same values. - 1 y
So for the love of God man. Quit smoking the Bernie Sanders pipe dream bs. The only way the so called “socialist” utopia can happen to a county like the USA isn’t going to be via socialism. It would have to come via brutal state enforced COMMUNISM like the peoples republic of China or the late Soviet Union. Mass oppression and control is the only way for that “shared” system to exist in a large highly populated country with people from several different backgrounds and values.
And while capitalism sometimes exploits communism KILLS. The number one mass murderer in the 20 century wasn’t Adolf Hitler. He was number three. No it was Mao Zedong followed by Joseph Stalin. Both communist dictators, “revolutionaries” and psychopathic leaders of mass genocide. - 1 y
@Curmudgeon
Where do you get the mental gymnastics to go to communism? It makes no sense at all
Yes, homogeneity is a HUGE factor in shared values. No doubt. Heterogeneity is not an unsurmountable obstacle though.
Very aware of capitalism and high taxes. They mitigate or eliminate the negative externalities of raw capitalism rather than as we do, reward the capitalists.
Socialist programs dont need brutality. You don't give Americans enough credit. Richard Nixon almost accomplished national health care! Eisenhower almost nationalized the airlines! There are ways to accomplish more egalitarian and progressive policies and institutions. We need ignorant people to stop voting against their own economic interests while being distracted by shiny objects by Christian nationalists and Trumpian con men. - 1 y
@DrPepper12 First, that was not me, it was @blueonblack22.
But more importantly, *you keep dodging his point*, which he got around to answering before I did. (you beat me to it, @blueonblack22)
Namely, to have those functional democratic "high trust", socially cohesive welfare countries, that you like so much, which the Scandinavian ones *were*, (before millions of alien migrants arrived in their nations) and Japan still is, those countries must have (1) birthrates above Replacement Level, and (2) a common monoculture and a set of common values. Both of which you leftists have undone, time and time again.
You pushed this "diversity" which has undone Norway/Sweden/Denmark, and now they have millions of migrants who do not share the common values that made those systems work, and they are taking advantage of, rather than contributing to, the social harmony that Norway/Sweden/Denmark once had. (They are also preying upon the local women in those countries in rather nasty ways.) You also undid the traditional family in those countries, which has led to below replacement level birthrates, so there just won't be enough younger workers to support the elders. Which is what led the Scandinavian countries to accept alien migrants in the first place. But they and the other Europeans are learning the hard way that their social systems are being ruined, not supported, but the new migrants, who come from very alien and frankly downright hostile cultures. Jihad, anyone? Japan is suffering from declining birthrates too, but they are looking to automation as a solution, and we shall see how that works out. - 1 y
@DrPepper12 (I ran out of space, continuing here). You talk about how Eisenhower and Nixon era conservatives had better social programs? Yah, and 1950's "Leave It To Beaver" America had a much more common culture and much less "diversity", and a "baby boom" of future workers to support it all! In Tricky Dick's time that was starting to unravel, but the culture and people were still much more unified and homogenous than they are now. Now, in a "Diverse" society, the only government programs that you like will have to be imposed by top-down (and rather brutal) force. The social cohesion that made Scandinavia work, makes Japan work ("the nail that sticks out will be hammered down") and 1950s America work, is now *gone*. And you and your ilk did it in!
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 also not to mention that African American communities had very low single motherhood rates and unemployment rates in the 50s prior to the LBJ entitlement initiatives that destroyed the black families, drove more black peoples into poverty, drugs and crime.
That’s not to say the ideal of ending Jim Crow, segregation and enacting civil rights into the law wasn’t a good thing. It was an excellent progress for humanity to end (true) structural racism in America.
But when you start pushing wealth redistribution and government entitlement programs that manipulate fiscal policy THAT is when major problems happen. Especially when it’s determined by race, gender and other immutable characteristics that people are born with. It’s the labeling of certain groups as “special and intersectional” that robs their agency. And the so called modern socialism will do just that: use taxpayer money to subjectively give more to others while stealing money from those considered “historically elite”. It won’t be based on the simple bottom line alone. Local governments in San Francisco are seriously considering “reparation” programs in San Francisco. - 1 y
@curmedgeon
@blueonblack22
You giys are crazy. None of those obstacles are not overcomeable. Seems i destroyed a lot!! Ill be saying 25 hail marys to atone! - 1 y
@DrPepper12 this all could been avoided if you didn’t mention start off with “not if Trump gets elected”.
The thing is America already had 4 years of Trump and so called “fascist dystopia” never happened. Lots of things were better for ALL Americans beaux then (economy, relative world peace, safer cities). 2020 was insane because of COVID and the lockdowns. But that had nothing to do with any politician. It was extraneous circumstance and time. - 1 y
But getting away from politics. Seriously @DrPepper12 you need to spend some time abroad in a non 1st world country. Not saying to head out to the Favelas in Rio De Jenaro or something. But you will never fully understand your country until you leave it for at least a few months. I remember coming back home with a new appreciation. Especially after returning from Thailand or Mexico.
