It happens. A plate gets chipped. Could be your everyday dishes, guest-only china, or a family heirloom.
What do you do when you find a chip in one of your plates?

My answer is C , which after thinking about it is really stupid and why I have so many unused plates and bowls , this is a vital question Tom , and I'm going to go though all those dam plates.
Here in Thailand ( unlike Australia ) whether you rent or buy , everything comes furnished , sometimes positive , sometimes not , this current place has heaps of plates and utensils , the previous place did not , so I bought in more , there is just way too much of everything , just after I'd cleaned all out.
I think I'd love to throw out chipped plates , but coming from a frugal family from the 70s , its a though ask , because they were never thrown out and often chipped.
If there were a chip on a family heirloom I would either leave it alone or try to fix it if I am confident enough to fix it on my own or perhaps hire someone to do that for me though would most likely just leave it be at that point to not risk damage any further.
If it is an everyday plate, I would just use it as is and try to cover up the chip while eating to not pay mind to it.
If it is severely damaged then throwing it out is a must.
@MisterWack Well, Wacky, you're a guy... you should KNOW what duct tape is FOR!!

If it's more than one chipped piece on the plate - and the plates were cheap - I will return it to the store. If the item is no longer sold/in stock - I will donate it to a college dorm/apartment with common area. College kids need plates besides paper/styrofoam.
If it's an expensive plate, I will return it to the store for a new set.
If it's thrifted - that usually comes with the territory. Depending on if it's bone china or crystal - I will try to auction it off if I can't stand to see the chip.
Most of our every day ceramics has a chip or two. Unless it's broken or got a big chunk out we still use it.
I quite like the Japanese concept of sabi that finds beauty and meaning in the traces of time left in objects like chipped plates.

I use Corelle dinnerware and have never had that problem.
My then-wife used to pick on me for not being careful with our Corelle plates, so I proved to her how durable they were by dropping one on the floor. It shattered into several pieces. You can't always believe marketing and advertising. 😲
Right. They can shatter with enough force applied, but I’ve been using them for 20 years and never had a crack or chip.
I’d throw the plate away! If it was a family heirloom, then i’d have it professionally repaired and reglazed. But absent familial value, I would just toss it.
Hope this helps

Depends on how chipped it is and if it's sharp chips. If they're sharp enough that they can cut, I'll throw it out. If they're just aesthetic, I keep it.
You could buy a colored marking pen that matches the color of the plate as close to the color as possible and just take the pen and color in where the chips are.
Good luck!☘️
Put chipped beef on it. For example:
I have a bowl that has one chip but it's still usable but if a plater bowl gets too many chips then there comes a time where it just needs to go in the trash
I save it for the very rare occasion when I get really, really mad and... then... you better duck bc... I THROW it!!
Depends how expensive the plate is? They have artisans that fix dishes. If 5 bucks or so, throw it in the trash.
I meant to put I keep using the plate... lol, this thing is too sensitive. lmao.
I just keep using it. If I have people over for dinner I'll put it at the bottom of the stack or use the chipped one myself
I keep using them, I use White Opal Glass Plates and Bowls so the chips are not so visible.
I wouldn't use expensive ones so I just throw them out or some duckt tape and use for the animals or something
I look up the plate on the internet and I order a new one if it's available. I do with this with silverware when I lose some of it.
Plates that have chips/ cracks in them collect bacteria which gets down so deep that it cannot always be washed away!
If it’s just one small chip, I’ll continue to use it. If it’s chipped in like six different places, then yeah fuck it toss it.
I usually dump the plate and buy a new one of individual plates can be purchased.
I buy a new set...
It is still usable so I won't throw it.
Eat with a chipped fork.
* Depends on size of chip
Depends on how badly it's chipped
toss it.
I threw them away
I keep them
I throw them out
