No offense but why are mostly autistic people so stupid?

Look I’m not trying to be mean but they’re so stupid I’m so many things. I have a cousin who is autistic and what I don’t understand is that she is so smart academically, but when it comes to everyday problems, people are relationships, she’s so……naive and stupid. Like she hung out with a group of girls and she didn’t see that those girls had a bad reputation. They used her, they treated her like shit when they’re not around others, and they only phone her when they need something. My cousin kept saying they’re probably are busy but she didn't realize she was being used. They used her for her money. She is so horrible at social cues. Also she sees a lot of good in people even though some are horrible and that girl will be friends with anyone. I know her parents told her not everyone is her friend and doesn’t have her best interest. She STILL has problems with it. She should have know and people still have to remind her! She said she doesn’t need a reminder but she obviously does because she’s too STUPID to see it! How can someone so smart but stupid? My cousin is 30 and she should know better!

Isn't this basically the definition of autism though? Like not being able to register social cue's easily but being very intelligent in other factors instead?
I think autistic people are very logical thinkers, they excel at logic but when people don't do logical behavior its hard for them to pick up on that. So if someone makes a logical argument that's dishonest but makes perfect sense she is likely to believe it. If someone makes a comment using alternative logic like a sarcastic remark that also fits logically within the context then that will make perfect sense in an incorrect way.

Meanwhile programming, learning from books, etc are all straight forward tasks you can solve with a logical mind without needing to read between the lines. They just are straight forward thinkers and the rest keeps throwing curveballs.

I personally love autistic people, I always get along with them great and I have had multiple autistic friends as a result. But I am a very direct person and if I do joke around I always reveal its a joke pretty quickly after so its easy for them to be able to enjoy my jokes.

We’ll It doesn’t make sense that she’s so fucking stupid to not see that people taking advantage of her! I mean she’s 30!! An ADULT! What more pathetic is that she can’t fight or defend for herself. How pathetic! 30 year old woman can’t even defend for herself. No man will want a relationship with her. It makes sense that she’s single.

Well it isn't because they are stupid. It is that they are wired in such a way that they aren't good at socialization, as you've recognized. I get it with your frustration because this takes a lot of patience to be around them. I used to be friends with an autistic guy who belonged to a club that I belonged to. I quit hanging out with him because of the weird topics of conversation that he had, etc. So I get it. I also used to hang out with a lady who I had common interests with but she was awful with social cues. Funny that she always talked about "Aspergers" and I think she talked about it a lot because she knew that is the way she was. She took a lot of patience to be around. We hung out a bit and went on various outings. She moved away but we are still in touch somewhat.

Okay so first saying no offence doesn’t take the offence away. But in general they tend to lack social skills. For some any interest is good interest especially if they’ve been ostracized or ignored their whole lives. They also don’t really have a filter or think before speaking so they’ll say things and not realize that it’s something inappropriate or mean, add that to not being able to adequately read social cues and you get someone who wants to have friends even if it means they’re cruel or bad influences.


It’s the same for those with ADHD. Autism and ADHD are portrayed differently in girls than boys. Girls tend to mask; and essentially create a new personality depending on who they’re with meaning no one but their parents truly know them because masking is a coping mechanism. (That means you probably don’t truly know your cousin; I know my cousins and even siblings don’t truly know me)

You are actually being mean.
You are judging her personality based on the fact that you know she is diagnosed with autism which isn't an accurate thing to do. If you had no idea you would simply call her gullible.
Have you ever considered that the fact she happens to see the good even in bad people because that is how she is a person?
Do you think that people that have autism have the same personality or the exact same traits or they exact same upbring in order to form those traits?
If so you are greatly mistaken.

I hear your concerns, but just take it easy. I know some autistic people as well and they do tend to struggle with social stuff. It's okay, it's part of their problem that they have to live with and work out. They may or may not be aware of it.

They are socially stupid which is what autism is about. Tho they tend to me much smarter than average in other areas. But the lack of emotional intelligence holds them back a lot

Do us all a favor and educate yourself on autism. Please. The last thing we need is more people who are ignorant about autism. Anyway, it’s not stupidity nor naïveté. It’s a leaning disability.
